Can You Fix a Big Hole In an Oil Pan?

We have a '94 Ford Escort that we take up in a field and hit Huge Bumps with. We noticed a 4 or 5 inch hole in the oil pan will duct tape do the job?Can You Fix a Big Hole In an Oil Pan?
Duct tape might do the trick. At least until you put oil back in the pan.

The only ';fix'; would be to remove the pan, use a hammer to to get the metal back in shape and have it tig welded professionally.

It'd probably be cheaper to get one at a junkyard. Can You Fix a Big Hole In an Oil Pan?
No, you have to replace it. And if you hit something so hard as to put that large of a hole in the pan, you probably damaged the crankshaft too which spins very close to the bottom of the pan, as well as the oil pump.
No. You need an oil pan. You can get one from a junk yard. What surprises me is that your car is not already in the junk yard.
If the hole is that big, you will need to replace the oil pan. You can get one in a junkyard pretty cheap.
sure that and chewing gum two wire hangers might help also no you buy a new one cant repair oil pan
I hope this is a joke, but if it is not NO!!! You cannot repair the hole in an oil pan. It must be replaced.
replace the oil pan with another one.
you would have to clean it then put the tape on otherwise the heat will burn it off
Bubblegum, and bailing wire works good.

I have a Farberware Mixer No. 391 that is leaking oil from where the attachments go in. How do I fix it?

This take you to the Customer Service page of Farberware. Click the appropriate link and you can get help with your mixer.I have a Farberware Mixer No. 391 that is leaking oil from where the attachments go in. How do I fix it?
I have the same mixer No. 391. It is not leaking oil yet. I have been told by American Home Lighting, (who deals with the older models)that the oil is sealed in the motor, and once it leaks there is nothing you can do. Also, for parts for older model appliances go to www.smallappliance.com. Report Abuse

Did yall know that there aint nuthin you cant fix with either ductape or oil?

If it should not move, and does, use ducttape.

  • Is there a way to fix the oil leak in a dodge neon 98?

yes any oil leak can be fixed ,first off though you have to find exactly where its coming from ,there's a few gaskets and seals on that one that could be leaking, if its a rear main seal you have to remove the transmission to replace it,the rest of the leaks could be repaired fairly easy but first you have to find it,good luck with it.Is there a way to fix the oil leak in a dodge neon 98?
The most common oil leak for that car is the headgasket. Talk to your local Dodge dealer to see if the recall covers your car. To fix that oil leak replace the headgasket. Is there a way to fix the oil leak in a dodge neon 98?
First you need to know where the oil leak is and no matter where is, there is a way to fix it.

My breather is spitting oil on the valve covers, and i have oil on my intake manifold, how do i fix it?

its a 351 windsor late 70's. i've done a clean up already and it's still leaking. just converted from points to electric, oil on water pump too.My breather is spitting oil on the valve covers, and i have oil on my intake manifold, how do i fix it?
Either you have many oil leaks, a clogged breather/pcv system, or bad rings. I would first try a new pcv valve and check for clogged lines. This is the cheapest thing to try first. Be sure to wash the engine off, this will help to pin point any leaks.

I do agree with checking the distributer to make sure the o-ring/gasket did not fall off or get damaged when installing it.My breather is spitting oil on the valve covers, and i have oil on my intake manifold, how do i fix it?
First off try changing your PCV valve and see if it helps.
Get it to a repair shop fast. You can blow your engine if you lose to much oil and the smell must be really bad with hot oil burning on all these things. Dangerous too.
check the o ring around the base of distributor you know where that flang hold it there plus i think ford uses on or two on the shaft too it might be leaking from there
Almost certainly it's passing the pistons and presurising the crankcase.

At least new rings at worst ---- how much money is your car worth?

I need a mechanic to answer. I have a engine oil leak in a 1995 Mercury Cougar (V8) and I want to fix myself?

    The leak is oil.

It's in the front left of the engine.

It's leaking daily.I need a mechanic to answer. I have a engine oil leak in a 1995 Mercury Cougar (V8) and I want to fix myself?
You need to identify exactly where the leak is coming from. It could be a bad seal/gasket or it could be a crack in the block.

If it is a seal, then you will have to take apart that section and replace the seal. Gaskets are the same. It is a fairly easy repair, but it will take some time the first time you try it.

If it is your engine block, there isn't much you can do. There are some parts stores that sell ';patches';, but you pretty much have to get a new block.

Until you are able to determine what it is, try replacing your engine oil with a heavier weight oil, like 10W40. It is a thicker oil, which makes it harder to leak through small openings.I need a mechanic to answer. I have a engine oil leak in a 1995 Mercury Cougar (V8) and I want to fix myself?
use simple green concentrate to clean engine really good all the grease and grime off. rinse off with water and let dry. once dry place cardboard undernieth to pinpoint leak. . . once leak is found ( which will be where two parts meet) drain oil take the two part s apart. clean mating surfaces and install new gasket and sealer. tighten bolts starting in the middle and work way out. tighten only a little at a time . never too tight , . fill with oil and run if it leaks tighten a lil bit more
It could be your main seal. That you most likely couldn't do yourself. You would have to take the whole top end apart. On the bright side, they do sell a product ((at any car store)) that you put in with your oil and it stops the leak. its a hit or miss though. I hope it works!
Have you verified it's not just a hole in your oil pan, or the plug isn't sealing properly. If it's leaking right out of the engine then you've got bigger problems.
Check your valve cover seal. Very easy and cheap to replace, takes about 15 dollars and twenty minutes of time.
change gaskets...first off....mainly the problem...then check screws....good luck...oh yeh....it maybe the problem with a seal behind your drive..belt....harmonic balancer seal

Why BMW can't fix the problem with oil sensor?

I have problem with my current and previous BMW cars, the computer is saying low on oil after putting additonal quarts of oil. My previous car had dealership replaced the oil sensor. It seems I am getting the same problem on my 2007 BMW328xi. Can BMW able to fixed this annoying problem? Why BMW can't fix the problem with oil sensor?
BMW certainly CAN fix it. I have a 2001 530i and I get the light only when its a quart from being totally filled or lower than that.

BMW isn't like other cars, where many manufacturers set their cars oil light to come on ONLY when its nearly out of oil (1 quart remaining) and probably has already damaged the internal engine parts.

BMW sets their oil sensor for with a 80% filled alert or less, which keeps the engine from being damaged. If yours leaks or burns alot then the light will come on more often. There is always a way to bypass it.

    1) either close the circuit completely to the sensor by soldering a wire between the two

    2) or open the ciruit and see if that turns off the light.

    3) If it truly is defective and not just your perception of the situation that is off, then BMW obviously has a part to fix it and can fix it in less than 15 minutes.

    Additional comments:

If your car is burning or leaking oil thru normal driving, run 15w 50 synthetic oil and bardhal stop burn additive and you'll notice a huge difference in oil consumption and your light shouldn't come on nearly as often.

    FYI-

My beamer eats a quart every 2500-3000 miles like clockwork and doesn't leak a single drop out the bottom.

Good luck. Why BMW can't fix the problem with oil sensor?
    That's a good question.

Most of the beemer's I've dealt with have this function built into the instrument cluster.

Maybe they don't want to pony up, or are just looking in the wrong place.
Henry Ford was once quoted to say that he would give away his cars if he had the monopoly on selling parts to repair them.

BMW nearly does have the monopoly on their parts.... but found that they don't have to give away their vehicles either.

You pay a hefty price for that name, at the lot and every time a service light comes on. Just wait till your computer goes out....

BMW doesn't want to fix the annoying problem, because they go ';ka-ching'; every time a car goes off the lot.
the dealer should reset the computer i think the computer needs to be reprogrammed if you are not satisfied with your current ,there is another dealer who would be willing to work on your car
Why are you adding oil if it doesn't need it? Too much oil is actually worse than slightly not enough.

Verify that your car has motor oil. Otherwise, stop driving it until you can verify whether it is a sensor,or an oil pump problem etc.My oil pressure light keeps beeping, how can i fix it myself ?
If you have ample amount of oil in the car, it's not making any noises, take ';lunatics'; advice and replace the sending unit.

  • How will President Obama fix the economy besides raising taxes on the rich, mid. class, and the oil companies?

Why do democrats always think more taxes are the answer? I'm taxed nearly to death already and there are people down the street from me on welfare driving Escalades. How is that fair? Doesn't he realize that when you tax corporations they just pass it on to the consumer? How will President Obama fix the economy besides raising taxes on the rich, mid. class, and the oil companies?
He can't. Jimmy Carter tried raising taxes during a bad economic spell. We all know about the economic disaster it caused.

Also, Chi doesn't understand economics. The lower dollar is helping the economy, not hurting it. The weak dollar is it has prevented many joblosses and it has caused economic growth to be higher than predicted. This is the first time since 1947 that there has not been economic contraction during a bad economic spell.

A falling dollar actually helps America's business, not hurts it. Japan is thinking about selling off its yen to boost the value of the dollar so Japan can sell more Japanese cars in the U.S..

';A gain of 1 yen against the dollar cuts Toyota's annual operating profit by 35 billion yen, according to the automaker.'; -Bloomberg newsHow will President Obama fix the economy besides raising taxes on the rich, mid. class, and the oil companies?
But Chi, McCain supports both the tax cuts and an end to the wasteful spending which is what has devalued the dollar.

The two factors (taxes and dollar) are not unrelated. When tax rates are reduced, the economy can reinvest more of its own earnings, thus requires less - or no - government infusion of money. Demand for dollars grows while there is no ';need'; to overgrow the supply of money.

That is what happened in the 1980s. If Reagan hadn't cut tax rates, Volcker's money supply tightening would have produced a far deeper and longer recession.
Exactly how is McSame going to fix it? By leaving it as is?

Isn't this the reason WHY we are in this mess in the first place? Bill Clinton balanced the budget. Why did bush destroy it? bush continues to spend money on a war that wasn't needed? Are you blaming bush for your taxes, or are you praising him for giving us that extra money that we HAVE TO PAY BACK LATER?

Bill Clinton fixed the economy BY raising taxes on the wealthier people, and had a surplus. bush turned around and gave it back. Was that smart thinking on his part? NO, and again...

...this is why we are in the position we are in.

EDIT: Since when is a lower rated DOLLAR helped this country. When it was low, it was in 1929. That was the DEPRESSION. As always, get a clue bush family member...

I had to drive about 15 miles to get some help with a leaking engineGot jk wrangler had an accedent and some how lost all engine oil if i fix it will it cause me trouble later?
The problem with trying to answer your question is that we cannot see the engine, in particularly the connecting rod bearings. I would strongly recommend taking off the oil pan and pulling off about three of the connecting rod end caps and checking the bearings. If they are bad, you will need to rebuild or replace the engine. If they are good, there's a good chance you got a break and can repair it. Good luck.

Car broke down, found water in the oil. What could be the problem?,You think it'll be expensive to fix it?

It's a 87 Toyota Corolla, that's the only problem, everything else is working fine.Car broke down, found water in the oil. What could be the problem?,You think it'll be expensive to fix it?
Usually caused by a leaking or 'blown' head-gasket (which forms the seal between the head (containing the camshafts and valves and spark plugs) and the block (containing the crankshaft and pistons).

It can result from the car overheating and warping the head.

It shouldn't cost a huge amount to fix - labor to remove and refit the head, and the cost of a gasket, plus maybe an allowance to 'skim' the head so that it will have an even mating surface. I don't know $4-500?Car broke down, found water in the oil. What could be the problem?,You think it'll be expensive to fix it?
probably a cracked head or a block is the usual cause for that happening,i doubt that a bad head gasket would cause it on that one but its possible, you should be loosing coolant a little at a time, it could also just be a blown head gasket on it,that would be a lot cheaper than replacing a head, but either way you,ll have to tear it down to find out,i hope the engine is ok in it,good luck with it.
Head Gasket OK but to me it sounds more like a cracked head!

Do you reeve the engine just before you shut it off? This will put unburned fuel in the Cylinders and wash down the walls into the Crank Case oil and any water from a cracked head Gasket or Head will wash down too.

Cracked Water Jacket Allowing water/Coolant into the Oil Pan.

Pull the Spark Plugs and check their condition but it sounds like a Rebuild or New Block is in order.
    see pbleek's answer above...
bad head gasket or a bad intake manifold gasket, either way it's expensive to fix, pray for the intake gasket as it's cheaper and it will still set you back around $700 if you have it done at a shop.
More than likely a head gasket..... with the age of the car and what it is, it'd be cheaper to buy another one and scrap that one or use as a parts car. Huge pain in the butt to replace the gasket and all the tear down you have to do.
more likely its a head gasket gone . and yes its an expensive job
Head gasket or cracked head, on an 87 it should not be too bad of a job to fix.

How do you fix a self oil er?

i have an husky 55 w/ a20 '; bar well the oil er seems to have quit what do i do ?How do you fix a self oil er?
Clean the lines. They plug with dirt and sawdust. How do you fix a self oil er?
Open the control screw so that oil just pours out - make sure you have something under to catch the oil. Once it stops coming out, I would blow air into the chamber - don't overdo it. Then I would close the screw and put a little oil in, cover the hole with a rag and stick the air hose under the rag, open the screw a little, blow it, then open it all the way and continue blowing it out. You probably picked up some sawdust particles in the oil. Good luck, cutting season is almost here.

I ran out of gas and know my car makes the same sound as when the oil needs changed. What can i do to fix?

fyi already changed oil and same sound!I ran out of gas and know my car makes the same sound as when the oil needs changed. What can i do to fix?
Check the oil now and make sure it's not low. Add if needed.

I'm assuming it's fuel injected. It has a pump in the tank that must be kept covered with fuel to cool it - which is why its now probably making a noise. It ran dry and overheated, and that damages them.

As suggested, needing the oil changes should have nothing to do with it - unless you're leaking so much it's down 4 quarts before you do..

In either case 1) check the oil every week, for the peace of mind of your bank account. Engines leak oil, and engines without oil don't run well at all. They tend to propel parts out the side of the block, instantly draining your cash in an engine rebuild. 2) Get the tank filled before it reaches the E, or the pump will fail, leaving you stranded and instantly draining cash for a new one.

In either case, there is a financial penalty for failure to do simple maintenance and operation, which many put off until it starts making that noise . . .I ran out of gas and know my car makes the same sound as when the oil needs changed. What can i do to fix?
    put more gas in it
What sound is it making? I've never heard a vehicle make a sound when the oil needs changed, unless it's a dinging noise when you first start it.
it happents to me too, filter is dirty, byu a fuel injector and put it in your gas it shold be better

the oil pan gasket should be the easiest to replace as it is the lowest point on the car.

A painter applied linseed oil over stain/poly on my trim. the oil is tacky and won't dry. how do i fix this??

the linseed oil may have softened the polyethelene and it is now tacky and gummy and will not dry after a week. it will soon attract dust, etc. i have tried mineral sprits, paint remover, detergents of all types. nothing fazes the tacky surfaces. the trim is through the house, and i must do something soon.... thanks for any help.A painter applied linseed oil over stain/poly on my trim. the oil is tacky and won't dry. how do i fix this??
    2 options:

    1. You didn't say you tried ';paint thinner'; which is different than the 2 chemicals you used. The other solution (not commonly known) is ';scotch guard spray'; used for protecting furniture. (Its a degreaser.)

    A. Sponge all the trim in 1 room with either of the above products (aproximately 50 linear feet), then start over and sponge again after 5 minutes. Wait 5 more minutes and:

    B. Take a wet vac (they're cheap, buy one) and slowly suck the the mess out of the trim. After you've done the room once, take a dry rag rubbing a small area to see if it'll dry.

If it doesn't dry, repeat process A (only if you saw an improvement the first time)

    Instant solution:

    2. Product that will remidy the situation (regardless of what they say) is water based clear coat - available in satin and high gloss. (Home depot has 2-3 brands.)

If you want semi gloss, buy 2 quarts, 1 of satin, and 1 of gloss, and mix equal portions.

The product is milk white (yes white) and will brush over wet oil base products. Be sure to put it on thick (in a small test area first) and come back 5 minutes later to ';feather'; brush any runs out.

Within 20 minutes you have a new clearcoat that will seal the sticky oil in. (And yes, it drys totally clear like urethane/varathane.)A painter applied linseed oil over stain/poly on my trim. the oil is tacky and won't dry. how do i fix this??
Linseed oil is used to seal the wood before applying the varnish or poly urethane , I have done this on exterior wood , but never on inside wood , on inside woodwork the stain ,and clear ( varnish , or urethane ) , I would make the painter come fix this mess , do not try to doctor the situation , makae him fix it , and stop using budget painters , next time get a old school pro...Make that painter or handy man come back and fix it , and he needs to eat the cost . I would make him start over , mineral spirits will not do it , need strong stuff , either make the so - called painter fix this mess or beat the sh*t out of him ...

If you end up having to do it alone , go to Sherwin Willaims , they will guide you in the right direction...stay away from lowe's and home depot , you tried to save a dollar and took the cheaper way out with this painter , so lets not make it worse , this happens everyday when someone takes the cheap way out or hire's these new school painters , they are nothing but a chump with a brush ,and a truck ,nothing more , nothing less ....just because they have a brush does not mean they can paint , and not every painter can paint ....
Boiled linseed oil in its self on bare wood takes about 3 weeks to dry. This is why I wait till fall when I do my yard handles and leave them for the winter. I bet this painter is a drinker?

What causes low oil pressure in vehicles and what is usually needed to be done to fix it.?

Assuming the gauge is functioning correctly, low oil pressure is almost always caused by worn bearings. As the gaps between bearings and the other components widen more oil leaks out and the pressure drops. Sometimes a high volume oil pump can be added to help ';get by'; because it will pump enough that oil will still go everywhere it needs to...but that is just a band-aid fix. Eventually you'll need to either rebuild or replace the engine. What causes low oil pressure in vehicles and what is usually needed to be done to fix it.?
You don't say how many miles you have on this vehicle but this is usually caused by worn rod %26amp; main bearings. If this is the case a total rebuild is in order. If the vehicle is not high milage it is possible your oil pump is at fault although this is not common. What causes low oil pressure in vehicles and what is usually needed to be done to fix it.?
low on oil - - - - - add proper level of oil

oil pump worn out - replace it

pickup tube clogged - clean that out too - while the pumps off.

Sludge buildup inside the engine - - replace the engine
Could also be the oil pressure sending unit.

purchase a Haynes manual for your car. It will walk you thru it.Can i fix an oil leak from the lower intake, v/c gaskt, and oil sending unit on a '95camaro3.4 myself and how?
Be prepared to be frustrated, first of all.. there ae several things that need special toolsto disconnect and get out of the way(fuel ines come to mind)

As a profesional mechanic of 30 years, I can tell you that it would take an inexperienced person about triple the time it would take a tech. As far as walking you through it, the procedure is VERY lenghtyand its easier to have you obtain a repair manual than go thru it here
I have no idea if you can do it or not, but the procedures should be listed here, probably in the engine/engine mechanical section.

    http://www.autozone.com/servlet/UiBroker鈥?/a>
It will take that many hours, but you can find valve cover gaskets cheaper then that. The oil sending unit is on the bottom of the oil pan, its just screws in and out (just make sure you seal it). The intake you have to pull everything off the intake, unbolt it, and then put it back on. Its pretty involved, and that most of the 6 hours youd be paying for. The valve cover gasket you remove the three screws that hold the cover, pull the old gasket off, and then put the new one on. Get the repair manual and check it out before and see if you think you can do it.
It's too lengthy of a procedure/too many tips to run thru here.

Best bet is a factory service manual ($$$) or an aftermarket repair guide ($).

In addition to specialty tools (fuel line decouplers, torque wrenches) GM still combined metric and standard fasteners on the same engine/car so you really need both sets of sockets/wrenches.

Best guess for a DYIer doing it for the first time?

Take book time (6.5?) and multiply for by at least four to get it right.

  • I have a major oil leak! How do I fix, and what was cause?

An oil line connecting underneath, to same housing part for my oil filter? PLEASE HELP!!!I have a major oil leak! How do I fix, and what was cause?
you might just have to tighten the oil filter or plug.I have a major oil leak! How do I fix, and what was cause?
You will definately have to fix that,a replacement pipe is easiest.dont drive till its fixed otherwise engine will blow.
there is a gasket and o-ring where the adapter bolts to the block. I have seen the o-ring get old and break a lot of times. you do need to clean it and make sure that is where it is coming from. if so, just remove oil filter and 2 bolts underneath to get to o-ring.
Year make and model would be helpful.

What your describing sounds like an oil cooler line and having them leak at the oil filter adapter is not unusual.

My guess is that your driving a GM pick-up of some kind.

If the oil is running out it would be best to have it towed to a shop and repaired.

An engine is a terrible thing to waste.
Clean With Carb Or Brake Cleaner To Make Sure Whats Leakig,Replace Leaking Part
I just went thru this! The lines are pre-formed and snap into the filter housing. These are oil cooler lines that run to the radiator. The best and cheapest fix is to eliminate the housing that the lines snap into. Replacing the lines was a pain in the azz. Next time I will get rid of the housing for sure!
oil line / oil filter your sure?

wipe all parts off near the area

if you know what your doing , try spraying at the area with good and ask your auto part store for sure what to use ie something that will evaporate quickly and not harm other parts to clean with

it maybe other parts related .... regardless ... repair asap

    live long
Any competant mechanicaly inclined guy or girl should be able to fix it. it's probably just a blown hose, but if it's specially curved you may hav eto hit the dealership. If it's an older car they may still have the part in stock, or try your local auto chiain store, and have them try to look it up. P.S. As my friend here said,, DO NOT drive the vehicle or even START it untill this problem is fixed, AND the oil level is topped back up to the full mark on the dipstick
just tighten you oil filter up

Oil accidentally spilled in my bag and my laptop speakers stopped working. is there a way to fix it?

the other parts of the laptop work just fine except the speakers. i think the oil went in it and damaged it. it still does not work when i tried plugging in earphones.Oil accidentally spilled in my bag and my laptop speakers stopped working. is there a way to fix it?
Laptops are tough, when it comes to replacing individual components. You could probably see what repair services are offered by the manufacturer, or, just find a pair of USB speakers as a workaround:

http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/notebo鈥?/a>Oil accidentally spilled in my bag and my laptop speakers stopped working. is there a way to fix it?
your soundcard is buster. try using a pci or usb sound card or one of those laptop usb speakers that have their own sound card. nevertheless, whichever solution you choose, your laptop speaker probably will not work anymore since it's connected to your old sound card.
You most likely damaged the sound card, or at least the part of your motherboard that transfers sound to the speakers and headphones outlet. I'm willing to bet the microphone outlet is no longer functioning either.

One solution would be to use a PCI sound card for your laptop, a card that plugs into your computer that will allow you to have another earphone jack and microphone jack. It will actually unload some of the sound processing from the cpu and handle it on its own.

If you have a warranty, now would be a great time to use it.

Why does government refuse to realize electric cars can fix problems in the world, eliminating the oil needs?

hibridization is not working, it still demand vast oil rescources, home heating oil prices still out of control, oil companies making huge profits while we supposedly have a shortage, outsourcing causing importation of more products from overseas while the shipping cost to bring the products here increases. We are building forign econonies at the cost of small business and the loss of jobs to the struggleing working class. Why does government refuse to realize electric cars can fix problems in the world, eliminating the oil needs?
Look who's running the country...a bunch of oil freaks. Everytime the price of oil goes up they are cashing in! They don't want to come up with alternative fuel sources because there is no money in that for them. Why does government refuse to realize electric cars can fix problems in the world, eliminating the oil needs?
It conflicts with self-interest. We need to elect different leaders.
its not just the electric cars. we could do a lot if the government would give people tax breaks if we install solar panel shingles. those can be used to get rid of the power plants, power the house, use the extra electricty to go into the power grid, charge our electric cars (tax breaks on those too), and it will help the economy by putting more money in peoples pockets to buy thing instead of paying for electricity.
    Here's my two cents:

I do agree with what many people say. There will be loss of jobs from things like, oil rigs. Unfortunately, that is not usually the most powerful motivator. The biggest motivator in a lot of oil-based arguements is these companies fund many presidential and congressional campaigns. Without the money these companies provide, campaigns would fail, and many contenders could go largely un-noticed. Also, if someone forks over the cash for your campaign, you would do what they wanted, because you will always want their support.
How are you going to produce all this electricity? Is it your contention that the technology exists to produce engines that will cost less to operate than the internal combustion engine? If so please let me know who has the patent so I can invest in their company.

Last I checked we do not have a shortage of oil (when's the last time you went to buy a petroleum based product and couldn't because of a shortage?). However, we do have very tight supplies, realative to demand. You could probably put some of the blame on the boom in China and India for that.

Who is this struggling working class? We have the wealthiest middle class in the world. We have a very low unemployment rate. Who are you talking about?

Oil companies are making profits because they are selling something we need. Are you suggesting that the government put limits on what people can earn as profit?

Personally I would rather be rich.
WHERE YOU GOING TO GET THE ELECTRICITY ???

The enviromentalists do not like hydroelectric dams, coal burning, oil burning, nuclear power.

How many jobs are you willing to destroy to go to pure wind power and where are you going to put the windmills?

I had my belt come off in my van and when I pulled over to fix it there was oil everywhere. What could cause?

I was driving home last night and my 99 silhouette lost power steering. I knew my belt had broke because it had done it before. When I got to a safe place to finally stop and fix it. I realized that it had just slipped off and oil had sprayed everywhere. It looks like it sprayed out the passenger side of the engine. What could have caused this and how much will it cost to fix it. Thanks for any help. RobertI had my belt come off in my van and when I pulled over to fix it there was oil everywhere. What could cause?
It's possible the belt hit something this time and broke it, like a power steering line. But, since I can't look at it, I really can't tell you.I had my belt come off in my van and when I pulled over to fix it there was oil everywhere. What could cause?
check transmission hydraulic level, some times pressure built in the small tank making hydraulic oil sprayed every where also make sure of the engine oil level.
My guess is that it punched a hole in the oil filter when it came off.

I have a 1969 hurst olds that the carbuerator leaks gas into the oil is there a quick fix for this?

i know its the carbuerator but i dont have the time or money to buy a new one or fix it my selfI have a 1969 hurst olds that the carbuerator leaks gas into the oil is there a quick fix for this?
carb needs replaced or rebuilt, I would not drive the car until you can afford to fix it or you might kill a very valuable engine in a very valuable car.I have a 1969 hurst olds that the carbuerator leaks gas into the oil is there a quick fix for this?
If the carburetor is a 4 barrel Rochester, this was a common problem. In the bottom of the float body there was a pressed plug from the factory that would seep over time. To correct, while doing an overhaul of the carburetor, a special type of plug or marine expoxie was applied to the underside of the float body

between the base carb manifold attaching part and the float body. Before removing the carb to prove to yourself that this is the cause, the top section of the carb can be removed leaving the float chamber exposed and gas should be up to the proper level for the float. Let sit overnight and check next day to see if there is a leak down of gas from the normal float level.
No way around it.Your going to have to rebuild your carb or get a new one.If you drive the car with fuel in the oil you WILL NOT like the results!!!!!!,,,I had this happen to me once. The diaphram in the manual fuel pump busted and pumped the crankcase full of gas.The result was a totally fried engine.
In most of the older carbs, this was a common problem after being in service for a few years. It was called ';leak down'; and was cause by the gasket and valve at the bottom of the accelerator pump being worn.

Problem today is the Parts are not usually sold in pieces, only in kit form, so they get expensive.
    The power valve in the carb has a torn diaphram. You need a pro. This is NOT A DIY JOB%26gt;
    they are right
It is quite possible it is not carb leaking.Check your fuel pump.If you have a mechanical fuel pump the diaphram in the pump is probably bad.I f you are shure it's the carb you should consider rebuilding it and adjust the float levels.

I have a 1995 toyota camry thats burning alot of oil, about a quart every 1000 miles, how do I fix this??

What oil/additive can I use to mitigate the problem

any Ideas?I have a 1995 toyota camry thats burning alot of oil, about a quart every 1000 miles, how do I fix this??
Run a heavier weight oil (conventional).

The motor is probably worn fairly good, but that doesn't mean that you have to get it rebuilt. It might still go for another 100k just the way it is. The heavier oil will help protect worn bearings and rings as well as less leakage from valve guides... Plus it wont burn off as much so you wont use oil as fast as you do now.I have a 1995 toyota camry thats burning alot of oil, about a quart every 1000 miles, how do I fix this??
Best thiing you can do is find the source of the leak and fix it, if its a gasket, then get it replaced, if its internal, well its time for a new car. Dont use oil additives, most will turn oil into jello if not changed out with fresh oil
thats old enough to be due for a set of piston rings. Do you see a bit of blue smoke, particularly on acceleration ? ask about an inframe overhaul - that works well on some jap cars, less expensive than you'd think.have your crankcase vent checked too- the PCV valve. a leak using that much oil would leave a mess wherever you parked.

i'd use real cheap oil, 20-50w might reduce usage.
There are so many things that could be going on you just can't ask that question. It is way too generalized. When you start your car is there a big pile of black smoke that comes from the exhaust? Your rings could be going bad. Is it poss. that the oil pan gasket is rotted and you are leaking oil from there? Could the valve cover gasket be bad? And the list goes on and on. The only way to find a problem is to search for it. Is your engine covered in oil? try to find the source of the leak. Otherwise take it to a mechanic and have them tell you what is wrong and fix it yourself or hire them to do it.

  • Do you think to fix an oil leak in the upper oil pan of a contour should cost a lot maybe just $200.00 ?

If they have to remove the front part of the exhaust system or a motor brace $200 is fair.

Is it pouring oil all over your driveway, or is the leak really seepage?

Many repair places are slow and looking for anything they can up sell a customer.

Even if it drips a little there is no emergency. Check your oil level once a week and see if it loses over a quart. If it does get it fixed, if the oil level barely changes, save the cash.Do you think to fix an oil leak in the upper oil pan of a contour should cost a lot maybe just $200.00 ?
the pan itself and the gasket total should be about 70 total and the labor should be about 1 hour max....so about 50-100 for labor..so that seems about right

How can i fix my car oil dipstick it . i cant check my oil because the stick wont get oil on it. the stick is?

loose so and i think its not going down far enough. i have a 1989 ford thunderbird 3.8 V6 LxHow can i fix my car oil dipstick it . i cant check my oil because the stick wont get oil on it. the stick is?
If you are not getting oil on your dipstick, there are basically two reasons for that. First the oil level in your car may not be high enough for a reading. The second reason is that you have the wrong dipstick. Make sure the dipstick is that right one for you engine make and model. Make sure it is going all of the way into the dip-stick sleeve also. Once you know you have the right dipstick, then you can fill to the the oil the proper level. Remember to check your oil on flat level ground with the engine off too.How can i fix my car oil dipstick it . i cant check my oil because the stick wont get oil on it. the stick is?
Go to a junkyard and see if they have some dipsticks you can get for a couple of bucks. Most of the time they yank the motors out to sell them as one unit and consequently, the dipsticks are in them :/ Only other option is to get another dipstick from the dealer but get prepared to pay like $40 bucks or something stupid just for a tiny part.
if it is the factory dip stick then you are probably low on oil. have a repair shop look at it.

He ran it about 10 times with only gas in it and now it won't start. I added the oil and cleaned the spark plug. The only other solutions I can think of are the oil isn't getting a chance to get in there without starting or there is a high amount of carbon build up in the exhaust. clean plug and replace

    use fresh gas/oil mix

close choke, mash trigger, yank till she hit

    move choke to half way

    yank till runs(mashing trigger)

    move choke to off position

Keep holding down trigger till she runs smooth.Boyfriend didn't know weedwacker needed oil/gas ratio now won't start. Suggestions on how to fix?
He deprived the cylinder of lubrication....I would say it is trashed.
I tend to agree that this thing should be given a proper burial in the dumpster. You could get away with a small amount of running without lubrication, but ten times ? Chances are high that you have scored the cylinder badly, as well as damaged the crankshaft bearing.

These little engines aren't made for this level of abuse, and it's surely not worth repairing. The parts alone will probably cost more than a new weed trimmer.
You add oil to the guess to provide lubrication for the engine. if he ran it that mcuh with out any lubrication, I would say it is not worth fixing. most likely, the engine has been damaged beyond repair. think of it this way-not adding oil to the gas is like driving your car with no oil in the crankcase...
send your boyfriend packing and go out and buy a new trimmer and DIY or hire somebody to do it for you.
Try pulling out the spark plug and putting a little bit of oil in the plug hole and pulling it a few times to get it loosened up then replace the plug and try starting it again.
Trade in boyfriend for new weedwacker.

I advise not buying it may have permanent damage done to it.I was looking to buy a car and oil is leaking from the oil pump, how much does it cost to fix that?
I wouldn't buy it. The former owner might have run it low on oil and did major damage to the engine.
buy the oil pan gasket and find a mechanic and ask how much to change it.I would not think over $100.00 or ask the dealer or person to split the cost and you will buy the car.
most oil pumps are inside the timing chain cover if you tear it down that far you might as well replace the timing chain or belt and the bottom main seal. or if it is out side mounted to the motor, driven off the serpentine belt then it is easy to replace
Ask a dealer - But it may be wise to avoid the car and look for another without the problem

I have an severe oil leak..no oil in several hours. How what is wrong and how much should it cost to fix?

The car is a 95 Ford Taurus that I believe overheated yesterday. The engine shut off while driving. I'm not sure if it overheated because the temperture gauge doesn't work. It shut off after I ran over a rock that scraped the bottom of the car. After it cooled and was drivable, it had a difficult time accelerating. That's when I noticed the leak.I have an severe oil leak..no oil in several hours. How what is wrong and how much should it cost to fix?
When you run out of oil completely the motor gets so hot from the friction of unlubricated parts that it shuts down. I had that happen to me one day and I did not know I had a leak. Just make sure to check it and fill as needed frequently. I f you ran over a rock It probably cracked or bent your oil pan . This will leak a lot of oil. If it was an engine leak , It would be a slow leak. I fixed a crack in my oil pan without repacing it or taking it off. The car has to be completely cooled off. Then you get under it and clean and sand the crack. The auto store has this liqid metal stuff you put in the crack , Then you let the car sit for 24 hours so it can set up. I did this and two years later it is still holding up. Repacement would cost you a lot and your car is too old and not worth it!!I have an severe oil leak..no oil in several hours. How what is wrong and how much should it cost to fix?
You probably have a hole in your oil pan, which holds the motor oil. Check underneath the motor. There is a square or round pan. Check for holes. Repairing of pan, and gaskets, by a mechanic should run a few hundred dollars.
Unfortunately, two great answers before me to choose from.

Yep, got hot, lost oil, sized a piston or two in the cylinder walls, blown head gasket, need I go on.

Hope you enjoyed the car while you had it, or on the other hand, good riddance!
    $5,000,000,000,000
Buy another car to wreck, as you successfully killed this one.
on those taurus's the oil pan gasket slides out on the right side of the pan, I have seen it many times. need oil pan gasket replaced
No doubt it is junk, if you had an oil leak and the engine died due to over heating you will need a new engine.

you say the temp gage dose not work that could well be a sign of low coolant in the first place.

If you replace the engine you will need to pull the dipstick on the tranny, they share the same cooler. If the engine got hot the tranny fluid could very well have gotten hot too.

if so then you just as well look for a different car. this one is 11 years old and you will end up sticking a small fortune in it
yea more than likely u cracked ur oil pan which may cause tha leak. but man. get a temp gauge soon. ur killin your car. and by the way sumn else is wrong 2 cuz your car should never overheat.

While using magical oils is it good to cleanse yourself first before handling them first also can oils fix a?

Spell? While using magical oils is it good to cleanse yourself first before handling them first also can oils fix a?
I think you need to educate yourself a little more before you start practicing with spells...as they can be a very powerful thing. I'm not sure what you're practicing, but you can go to just about any bookstore and look in the New Age section and find many books on spells, Wicca, oils and things in that nature. Good luck but first do your homework.

Clearly based on the way you worded your question you seemed a little ignorant on what you were doing. I was just trying to help and not insult you in any way and the name calling is completely ridiculous and uncalled for. While using magical oils is it good to cleanse yourself first before handling them first also can oils fix a?
I would say that before a ritual or magical working, yes, it is a good idea to cleanse yourself and your working space - if nothing more than to clear yourself of any ';excess baggage'; and put yourself in the right mindset to focus your intentions into your work. I don't exactly perform a ritual to make my essential oil blends though (I assume this is what you are referring to by magical oils?)

I don't understand your question about if oils can fix a spell? Sorry. What do you mean by this?
Can magical oils ';fix'; a spell? Not that I am aware of, but then again I have never tried that? I wouldn't count on it. And when you say cleanse yourself, that's a trickier question. Obviously your physical self should be clean, and your intention should be clean. Meaning that whatever you are going to be using the oils for should be on the up and up. Other than that, I think you're fine.
you should always be cleansed in both body and mind before working a spell. I'm not sure what you mean by oils fixing a spell though.

oil injector? also how much does it cost to replace a oil injector?Im looking at a boat with a motor that has a oil injection problem. how much does it cost to fix a?
Its not the motor that has the problem, it is the oil pump, they are pretty easy to work on. The cost would depend on what kind of a motor you have and the horsepower.Im looking at a boat with a motor that has a oil injection problem. how much does it cost to fix a?
are you talking bout the oil mixes with the gas automatically,

called a VRO?? if so you can simply disable the pump and mix the gas and oil yourself.
Nowhere NEAR as costly as fixing (or replacing) the motor when that oil injector fails on you. Even a rebuilt oil injector is risky to use...ask any seasoned outboard guy. Forget the injector. Take an extra three minutes and mix your gas/oil.
First off the VRO is exclusive to OMC motors (Johnson %26amp; Evinrude). Secondly you need to have the motor checked to make sure there is not already any internal damage. Do a compression check. There should be no more than a 12-15 psi difference in any 2 cylinders.

If the compression is good, have the oil injection disabled by a certified marine technician. Then you will have to mix the gas and oil yourself using a 50:1 gas/oil ratio with a quality TCW-3 oil.

Having the oil injection disabled is a lot cheaper than if the oil injection does fail. And if it is an older Mercury IT WILL. In older Mercurys a plastic gear on the crank drives a steel gear in the oil injector. Think about it, plastic driving steel.

My check engin light comes on will an oil change fix this?

it will if the oil is lowMy check engin light comes on will an oil change fix this?
No, changing your oil will not cause your check engine light to turn back off. Check engine lights are there to let you know if something is wrong with the engine or emissions system.

Some new cars may have a ';maintenance required'; light that comes on to remind you that you need an oil change. This is totally different from a check engine light though.

If your car is still under warranty, bring it back to the dealership and have them determine why the light is on. Note that warranties on some emissions equipment is longer than a normal 3 year/36K mile bumper to bumper warranty. Read your owner's manual for details.

If you are out of the warranty period, and want to find a local mechanic instead of going to a car dealer, then you might want to visit the cartalk website. Cartalk is a radio show, but on their website they have an area where you can look up mechanics near you, and read customer satisfaction surveys. Might help those that don't have much experience with cars find a trusty, honorable mechanic. My check engin light comes on will an oil change fix this?
no that wont fix it. if the check engine light comes on you need to get a scope and see what it could be. ive noticed alot of times its the oxygen sensor but u have to get it scoped.
Probably not. There could be countless issues. Check your auto manual and get on the phone with the local service department of the type of car you have. Whatever happens, they will have to reset your check engine light, so you'll probably have to take it in. If you are out of your warranty, whatever is done will cost you. But how much depends on the problem your car is experiencing. The last thing you want to do is ignore it and hope it goes away!
I doubt it. Disconnecting the battery might get the light to go off. In some cases that will damage the computer. In my case it won't hurt anything. By the way getting the light to go off does not necessarily mean that the problem is fixed.
no it would probably help usually you need to take it to a auto store to have a system check with there computer
I doubt it. The check engine light indicates that there is a problem somewhere in the car's system. It could be anywhere. What the mechanic will do is to plug in a diagnostic tool into the car'scomputer , and this will in turn print out certain trouble codes where the problems could be. He then checks these areas.
Probably not. Get the oil changd anyway but also ask your mechanic to plug in his electronic analyser. In a moment it will diagnose the reason for the light on and allow the warning light to be reset. Sometimes the light comes on for no good reason but usually there is something happening you need to know about and act upon.
if it's a newer car it should if not have some one take it look at it
No, changing your oil does not guarantee your light will go out. Id suggest you to take it to a mechanic and tell them to check it out.

I was just quoted $600 to fix an oil pan gasket leak. Is this reasonable?

What is it on? Do you have to take motor mount bolts loose? If not you're getting screwed. What make of vehicle? What size of engine? Need more info to give appropriate answerI was just quoted $600 to fix an oil pan gasket leak. Is this reasonable?
It depends upon the model. However, it does seem a little high.

Permit me to probe a bit.

Many older cars leak oil...many not so older cars leak oil too. I have oil spots on my garage and driveway (I've got kids with older, but reliable cars). The spots look huge! However, in all cases (there are 4 cars), the leak does not amount to even one quart loss between an oil change every 4-5000 miles. They are messy though.

Oil comes from all over the place...valve covers, oil pan...The reason why I'm adding this is that you can spend a great deal on money chasing oil leaks and still have an oil leak when it's all done.

Now if you bottomed out on something and ripped a gash in the oil pan...that's different. If you're just an extremely neat person and can't stand to see the spots...well it's cost/benefit thing.

FYI: 2 of the vehicles I've got are late GM. GM's, I'm told, are very leak prone. They just are. Excellent drive train...but leaky. I get post cards from Chavez thanking me for keeping them on the road.

All this blabbing is to try to convey the thought...don't fix it unless you feel as though you have to. AND keep your check book handy...they'll be more.

Hope it works out for you. Good Luck.I was just quoted $600 to fix an oil pan gasket leak. Is this reasonable?
omg... what kind of car do you have? i know to get a brand new oil pan for my civic is 100.00.... 600.00 sound a little out of whack?! i would call around your area, what exactly is it? like an o ring or an actually gasket? i cant see a gasket costing that much either!!! i would buy the gasket and sealer and do it your self, they arent too hard to put on, i did my spark plug and head gasket by myself. :) i think i paid about 15.00-25.00 for everything directly from honda!
Shop around to get more quote on oil pan gasket. Most mechanic alway rip people off. Also call auto part to find out how much the oil pan gasket. Its depend whats kind of car do you have.
hell no .......that's way too much .... gasket will cost you $20.00 to 30.00.. take it to another mechanic... it should cost you at least 150.00 the most .. good luck !!!

97 honda accord ex leaking engine oil and mechanic say I need a vtec controller to fix it???

my mechanic says I need a vtec controller and it will cost $300. What is a vtec controller and I was wondering if there was a place I could get it for cheaper?97 honda accord ex leaking engine oil and mechanic say I need a vtec controller to fix it???
The VTEC controller? Are you sure he didn't mean the VTEC solenoid? The VTEC Controller is just there to control at which RPM VTEC engages..you probably don't even have one..its aftermarket....seems kinda weird...check into that. Maybe you ought to ask at a shop that speciailizes in Honda's. And as far as buying the selenoid, ebay is a great place. Or find the part number and you can get it from this site:

check where you are leaking oil from. If it has anything to do with VTEC it will probably be the solenoid. I would think it is just the gaskets especially if they haven't been replaced in a while.

If this is a honda specialist it may be the solenoid. If it is not, he's probably full of s**t.
If your car is leaking oil it is more than likely a blown gasket or seal. You may want to get a second opinion before you let your mechanic work on your vehicle. It could mena the difference between spending hundreds or spending thousands.
sounds like bs that is an aftermarket tuner racing part

How do you fix an oil leak that is dripping on the manifold?

New gasket is noce - but often the bolts holding the covers down have become loose - you can probably just tighten them a bitHow do you fix an oil leak that is dripping on the manifold?
All depends on where it is dripping from. If it is from a valve cover, replacing the gaskets is easy. If the cover is bent then it must be straightened first. I have seen oil drip from other places as well. track it down first. How do you fix an oil leak that is dripping on the manifold?
Maybe the link below will help you out, if not, then I apologize.
If it's leaking on to the exhaust manifold, you need a new valve cover gasket.
If it is DRIPPING to the manifold, then your valve covers are leaking and you need new gaskets. they are easy to fix.

How much does it cost to fix a oil pan gasket on a 2002 chrysler sebring ?

No more than two hours labor at any shop. plus the gasket, oil, and filter. About 60.00 in parts 200.00 in labor MAXHow much does it cost to fix a oil pan gasket on a 2002 chrysler sebring ?
I don't know exactly how much, but, the oil pan is pretty easy to access on most cars so it shouldn't be that expensive. You could do it yourself if you don't mind getting dirty.

  • The oil plug in my motorcycle would not tighten, if the oil pan stripped, how can I fix this? New oil pan???

I torqued down the oil plug to specifications, but the plug would not tighten all the way. The manual recommended 22ft-lbs which is not a lot. The first time I torqued it down to specifications it tighten fine; now it gave me problems. I know is only aluminum, but is it fixable? Would I need a new oil pan? Take it to dealer? Can I fix the threats myself or whatever is wrong with it?The oil plug in my motorcycle would not tighten, if the oil pan stripped, how can I fix this? New oil pan???
This is a common problem (even in cars). They have a plug (oversized) that fits into the drain plug. There are few designs. Some are just larger. Some are in two parts (the first part actually DRILLS or TAPS into the pan and within it sits new drain plug.)

Just ask around the motorcycle shops and see that they have.

Good Luck...The oil plug in my motorcycle would not tighten, if the oil pan stripped, how can I fix this? New oil pan???
Don't use the rubber plug. Those solution work fine UNTIL it fails (falls out). Then you are miles from home with a motorcycle bone dry. You need a more permanent solution. Report Abuse

If money doesn't matter with you, better you buy a new one.

But you may try one of the following before you buy a new one:

(You don't need to tighten it that much, just use your feeling).

    1. Replace its rubber O-ring with a new one.

    2. Apply thin layer of Teflon tape (plumbing things)

    3. Fix the thread by enlarge it to a bigger size plug, and replace the plug accordingly.

    4. Bring it to a welding shop that has aluminum weld to apply a thin layer cover all the thread surface, then re-threaded it.

    5. Last option, buy a new one.

    Good luck
Or use one of the rubber oil drain plugs that's made for this purpose. Any auto parts store has them. I used a rubber plug in my bike for years and years. They work fine.
