i have very small amount of oil leaking from my car. i was wondering if oil leaks are fixable. and also if i take it to a shop, will they charge me to find out where the leak is coming fromCan you fix an oil leak on a car?
Take it to a shop and ask for a estimate. When they give the estimate ask them to show you where it is leaking from. you might get a little dirty wear old cloths. Depending on the leak the cost will vary. My car has leaking valve cover gaskets the parts are cheap. but while diagnosing the valve covers i found out i have a leaking Intake manifold Gasket. shop estimated $1200 to fix. i did some research the parts i can get the parts on line for $250 bucks and do the work myself. Ps. be sure to ask if they give free estimates up front, if they don't take it somewhere else. Can you fix an oil leak on a car?
Yes oil leaks can be repaired. You will have to pay for a dye additive
to be added and then drive it for a couple days. Your Tech will
then use a black light to locate the leak. I have to disagree wil the
Gent that works for free. I would charge you a minimal diagnostic
charge for my time to accurately diagnose and repair your
Vehicle. I prefer to be up front and honest and charge a price which reflects a professional competent repair. I then back it with a
warranty.
this can be very expensive or very cheap - you have to get the engine shampooed so you can see where the oil comes from.
take it to a shop if you can't fix it yourself and ask beforehand if they charge for checking it out.
most oil leaks are very fixable....A shop won't charge you to find out where it is coming from if you doo the work with them......get it fixed......some oil leaks can lead to fires!!!!!!
try using a thicker grade of oil...........then try a high mileage oil.......

Quote to fix oil leak in car - 拢400!!!?
garage said my head gasket needs changing due to oil leak, i could still drive my car around for couple of months...and they quoted 拢400!! I dont think its a major oil leak as otherwise i wouldve had to refil my oil on a regular basis. I just noticed a small patch of oil where my car was parked right at the front. And for the last month i havent been driving the car and i noticed a yellow stain round the exhaust pipe..whats that??
A friend of mine said my oil leak is easy to fix, a local garage will put something that looks like a paper round the gasket to stop any leak...i dont know if this is called a sump gasket...
any adviseQuote to fix oil leak in car - 拢400!!!?
if the head gasket had gone there would be more symptoms than an oil leak maybe its the valve cover gasket, that can sometimes be cured by retorquing the bolts on the cover (usually 8-12 ft-lbs), the sump gasket is at the bottom of the engine and the bolts for that can be retorqued in the same way, as a primary step

Fix oil leak or antifreeze leak first?
i have two leaks in my car, a small oil leak and a rather large antifreeze leak. The oil leak is one that could be temporarily maintained by adding a little oil every few weeks or so because its really not much of a leak at all, but will need to be addressed at some point. The antifreeze leak is somewhat major, to the point where i could fill up a half gallon bucket in an hour. Knowing that both these jobs are gonna cost hundreds to fix, and i dont have the money right now to do both, which should get the higher priority?Fix oil leak or antifreeze leak first?
You really do need to find out where your coolant is going. With any luck, it isn't going into the engine oil. It's usually a bad water pump, which can be a do-it-yourself job and isn't all that expensive. If you're lucky, it's a hose--that's even easier. Have you even TRIED to find out where it's draining from?Fix oil leak or antifreeze leak first?
Antifreeze -- absolutely! As someone else said, it could be a hose, which is relatively inexpensive and something you probably can change yourself even if you are inexperienced.
You can drive a car with a small oil leak for scores of miles simply by keeping check on the oil level.
Antifreeze leak. Where is the leak? If it is in the heat core, you can bypass the heater core.
The anti-freeze leak has more potential to cause harm than the oil leak, and more potential to leave you stranded somewhere....
Fix it first...
Fix coolant leak first. Too much danger of running out of water and over heating the engine to put it off.
Definitely the anti-freeze coolant leak.
antifreeze leak it sounds the worst

Fix oil leak or buy new car?
I have a 2001 Chevy Tracker. It has been great, but over the past 3 months, I have had a heck of an oil leak! My hood billows smoke after driving it for more than 15 minutes and oil is definitely burning. I took it to Sears and Pep Boys and paid for a diagnostic and neither could find where the leak is coming from, thus it is not fixed. I am refilling my oil tank about every other week.
Do I invest in ANOTHER mechanic to look at it and fix it (if he can)? How much could it cost me to fix a leak like this? Or am I better off buying a new car? (Which I can't really afford either... but I don't want to keep throwing $$ into diagnostics that come to no solution...)
THANKS!!!Fix oil leak or buy new car?
zounds like you have a very leaky gasket somewhere, Oil pan, valvecover,
710 cap not screwed on??? bad PCV valve???
does it leave a puddle where you park it??how dirty is the engine, can you see oil tracks on anything?
only losing oil while driveing??
with a lot of smoke present, its hitting the exhaust and that represents a potential fire hazzard if it is leaking that bad.
open the hood and try and locate which side of the motor is smoking the worse, thats the side with the earl leak.Fix oil leak or buy new car?
if there is a leak you should have oil dripping onto the ground when parked. if you have no dripping then there is an internal problem with the engine. Visual inspection should be all thatrequired for oil leak .
Take vehicle to a dealership and have them check it out. They should be able to tell you if it is a leaky gasket or an internal engine problem.
if u open up the hood and see heavy smoke then it cud be ur valve cover gaskets, which u can do with a little kno how and patients, cuz it sounds like its leaking right on to ur exhust manifold. good luck.
Your leak will probably be a very simple fix. Hmmmm, a 300 buck fix, or a car payment another 6 years? tough call.
First of all, I have been in the auto field for over 40 years. If you took your truck to Sears and Pep Boys and paid to have your oil leak checked out and they couldn't find the leak and charged you anyways, first thing I'd do is go back tomorrow and get a refund from both of those clown outlets. Most national chain shops charge ZIP ZERO NOTHING to check for an oil leak. If it's not an obvious leak, have them put some dye in the oil. That will determine the source(s) of the leak(s). Why would you even consider going to sears or pep boys for auto repair amazes me. That's like going to WalMart for auto repairs.
well first you have to take it some where they know what they are doing......and just first thing id look at woul dbe the valve covers.. most commo place for most leaks and cost little to replace the gasket.....is a doit your self thing in most cases.... maybe 20 bucks.... but if its coming out the tail pipe then its time to start looking .. so heres what to do open the hood and look if you see oil on the top or sides you can fix it pretty cheap.. id be thinking that is where your problem is... but you also check the tail pipe if its black and wet then its time to switch

I have a 2002 Landrover Freelander. The coolant leaks to the engine oil. What do I do to fix it?
Take it to the dealer and get it checked out, it's either an intake leak or a head gasket, neither of which is a do it yourself or cheap fix, good luck.I have a 2002 Landrover Freelander. The coolant leaks to the engine oil. What do I do to fix it?
sounds like gasket problem! id' have shop look at it!I have a 2002 Landrover Freelander. The coolant leaks to the engine oil. What do I do to fix it?
Sounds like a head gasket leak. Very time consuming fix. Can be expensive if you have it done at the dealer. Well over $1K.
you may have a head gasket leak or crack, get it checked out. or you have a leak in your coolent hose... good luck, if u have any more questions please email me at
pookiesauto@yahoo.com
Head gasket my friend. Big labor dollars, u may want to do it yourself if you have time and space and patience. I've blown two in the past year and replaced one and decided to replace the engine on the other one which was less expensive.
