Can you fix an oil leak on a car?

i have very small amount of oil leaking from my car. i was wondering if oil leaks are fixable. and also if i take it to a shop, will they charge me to find out where the leak is coming fromCan you fix an oil leak on a car?
Take it to a shop and ask for a estimate. When they give the estimate ask them to show you where it is leaking from. you might get a little dirty wear old cloths. Depending on the leak the cost will vary. My car has leaking valve cover gaskets the parts are cheap. but while diagnosing the valve covers i found out i have a leaking Intake manifold Gasket. shop estimated $1200 to fix. i did some research the parts i can get the parts on line for $250 bucks and do the work myself. Ps. be sure to ask if they give free estimates up front, if they don't take it somewhere else. Can you fix an oil leak on a car?
Yes oil leaks can be repaired. You will have to pay for a dye additive

to be added and then drive it for a couple days. Your Tech will

this can be very expensive or very cheap - you have to get the engine shampooed so you can see where the oil comes from.

take it to a shop if you can't fix it yourself and ask beforehand if they charge for checking it out.
most oil leaks are very fixable....A shop won't charge you to find out where it is coming from if you doo the work with them......get it fixed......some oil leaks can lead to fires!!!!!!
try using a thicker grade of oil...........then try a high mileage oil.......

Quote to fix oil leak in car - 拢400!!!?

garage said my head gasket needs changing due to oil leak, i could still drive my car around for couple of months...and they quoted 拢400!! I dont think its a major oil leak as otherwise i wouldve had to refil my oil on a regular basis. I just noticed a small patch of oil where my car was parked right at the front. And for the last month i havent been driving the car and i noticed a yellow stain round the exhaust pipe..whats that??

A friend of mine said my oil leak is easy to fix, a local garage will put something that looks like a paper round the gasket to stop any leak...i dont know if this is called a sump gasket...

any adviseQuote to fix oil leak in car - 拢400!!!?
if the head gasket had gone there would be more symptoms than an oil leak maybe its the valve cover gasket, that can sometimes be cured by retorquing the bolts on the cover (usually 8-12 ft-lbs), the sump gasket is at the bottom of the engine and the bolts for that can be retorqued in the same way, as a primary step

Fix oil leak or antifreeze leak first?

i have two leaks in my car, a small oil leak and a rather large antifreeze leak. The oil leak is one that could be temporarily maintained by adding a little oil every few weeks or so because its really not much of a leak at all, but will need to be addressed at some point. The antifreeze leak is somewhat major, to the point where i could fill up a half gallon bucket in an hour. Knowing that both these jobs are gonna cost hundreds to fix, and i dont have the money right now to do both, which should get the higher priority?Fix oil leak or antifreeze leak first?
You really do need to find out where your coolant is going. With any luck, it isn't going into the engine oil. It's usually a bad water pump, which can be a do-it-yourself job and isn't all that expensive. If you're lucky, it's a hose--that's even easier. Have you even TRIED to find out where it's draining from?Fix oil leak or antifreeze leak first?
Antifreeze -- absolutely! As someone else said, it could be a hose, which is relatively inexpensive and something you probably can change yourself even if you are inexperienced.

You can drive a car with a small oil leak for scores of miles simply by keeping check on the oil level.
Antifreeze leak. Where is the leak? If it is in the heat core, you can bypass the heater core.
The anti-freeze leak has more potential to cause harm than the oil leak, and more potential to leave you stranded somewhere....

Fix it first...
Fix coolant leak first. Too much danger of running out of water and over heating the engine to put it off.
Definitely the anti-freeze coolant leak.
antifreeze leak it sounds the worst

Fix oil leak or buy new car?

I have a 2001 Chevy Tracker. It has been great, but over the past 3 months, I have had a heck of an oil leak! My hood billows smoke after driving it for more than 15 minutes and oil is definitely burning. I took it to Sears and Pep Boys and paid for a diagnostic and neither could find where the leak is coming from, thus it is not fixed. I am refilling my oil tank about every other week.

Do I invest in ANOTHER mechanic to look at it and fix it (if he can)? How much could it cost me to fix a leak like this? Or am I better off buying a new car? (Which I can't really afford either... but I don't want to keep throwing $$ into diagnostics that come to no solution...)

THANKS!!!Fix oil leak or buy new car?
zounds like you have a very leaky gasket somewhere, Oil pan, valvecover,

710 cap not screwed on??? bad PCV valve???

does it leave a puddle where you park it??how dirty is the engine, can you see oil tracks on anything?

only losing oil while driveing??

with a lot of smoke present, its hitting the exhaust and that represents a potential fire hazzard if it is leaking that bad.

open the hood and try and locate which side of the motor is smoking the worse, thats the side with the earl leak.Fix oil leak or buy new car?
if there is a leak you should have oil dripping onto the ground when parked. if you have no dripping then there is an internal problem with the engine. Visual inspection should be all thatrequired for oil leak .
Take vehicle to a dealership and have them check it out. They should be able to tell you if it is a leaky gasket or an internal engine problem.
if u open up the hood and see heavy smoke then it cud be ur valve cover gaskets, which u can do with a little kno how and patients, cuz it sounds like its leaking right on to ur exhust manifold. good luck.
Your leak will probably be a very simple fix. Hmmmm, a 300 buck fix, or a car payment another 6 years? tough call.
First of all, I have been in the auto field for over 40 years. If you took your truck to Sears and Pep Boys and paid to have your oil leak checked out and they couldn't find the leak and charged you anyways, first thing I'd do is go back tomorrow and get a refund from both of those clown outlets. Most national chain shops charge ZIP ZERO NOTHING to check for an oil leak. If it's not an obvious leak, have them put some dye in the oil. That will determine the source(s) of the leak(s). Why would you even consider going to sears or pep boys for auto repair amazes me. That's like going to WalMart for auto repairs.
well first you have to take it some where they know what they are doing......and just first thing id look at woul dbe the valve covers.. most commo place for most leaks and cost little to replace the gasket.....is a doit your self thing in most cases.... maybe 20 bucks.... but if its coming out the tail pipe then its time to start looking .. so heres what to do open the hood and look if you see oil on the top or sides you can fix it pretty cheap.. id be thinking that is where your problem is... but you also check the tail pipe if its black and wet then its time to switch

Head gasket my friend. Big labor dollars, u may want to do it yourself if you have time and space and patience. I've blown two in the past year and replaced one and decided to replace the engine on the other one which was less expensive.

I have a 1988 volvo, engine runs, but has oil leak and needs brakes bad. Should I fix it or buy a new car?

if the body and interior are decent and the car basically runs and drives well, there is no reason for a new car. yours can probably be fixed for less than your indicated pocket book. good value is never out of style.

even the removal of the transmission to replace a rear main seal pays less than 3 hrs labor and the seal is only about 15 dollars [you will want to replace the torque converter seal at the same time so that will be another 15 dollars or so and a few tenths more labor.

if you elect to keep the car. you should look for a shop the same way and use the same criteria that you would to find a family doctor.

good luck and hope you keep ';rolling';I have a 1988 volvo, engine runs, but has oil leak and needs brakes bad. Should I fix it or buy a new car?
i have 94' volvo 850, i love it and i am in a similar position, it needs repairs and i know once they are taken care of it will be great, but i just am fed up with these mechanics who charge up the roof for it because its an import, and its actually and easy car to fix, i think yours is probably easier to fix because of the year, i think you should get the oil leak fixed, could be inexpensive, you could probably change the brake pads yourself, or find someone to do that,I have a 1988 volvo, engine runs, but has oil leak and needs brakes bad. Should I fix it or buy a new car?
Anyone who would eat the new car ';off the lot'; depreciation for a warranty has things backwards. Find out what kind of oil leak it is; if it's you rear main seal, which costs 1000 dollars(due to labor costs, not parts), don't fix it, but if it's a minor leak, get it fixed and that car will run forever.

I own a 1997 850 GLT T5 with 175,000 miles and it runs and drives like a brand new car. I also have a new 2009 C30 T5 that is one of the greatest cars I've ever owned or driven, and I used to be a valet in Palm Beach. =)
Fix it. The Volvos before the 90's were actually good cars.
If you have the money I would get a new car becuase of the warranty they come with.

how much time do you have its a process the takes a little longer you have cleaned with paint thinner to remove all oil around damage area next is some lite sanding and then treat it with the same material that is on the rest of the table but the best thing is to take to a repair shop so they can do it better

My uncle changed my oil and put atleast half a quart too much in my car will it damage it/how do i fix it?

my car is a 96 ford escort and ive put about 1000 miles on it since he changed my oil my freind noticed it was to high when we were messing around with it and sayed it will mess up somekind of seal. Is this true and if so can i just drain a little oil to fix it?My uncle changed my oil and put atleast half a quart too much in my car will it damage it/how do i fix it?
they say it can blow your rear main seal. but really ive done the same thing and drove it. still going strong. you can either open up your drain and let some oil out, make sure you have another quart with you chances are u will let to much out. or you can remove your filter and empty it a 6 or 8 cylinder engine holds about a 1/4 of a quart. My uncle changed my oil and put atleast half a quart too much in my car will it damage it/how do i fix it?
    Your fine.. dont worry
Drain a little out of you feel the need.

Less than a quart shouldn't hurt it.

If I was that worried about it I would simply go have the oil changed.

I'd be more concerned that the engine is ';making'; oil, as in the crankcase is being contaminated with gas or antifreeze.

Have a real mechanic take a look at it and have the oil changed.
To much oil can blow your valve cover gaskets which is bad but pretty cheap to fix. It can also blow out your rear seal that connects your crank shaft to the transmission, this is very expensive and difficult to fix. You should empty out the excess oil asap.
It is a very distinctive rule of thumb to follow the manufacturer's recommendation fluid level for any of your cars fluids. It is a very good observation on your friends part that it has been over filled with oil and that it is a possibility that some of it should be drained out. If when draining some out you think too much was drained, be sure and run the engine, shut it off, wait for about five minutes, recheck the level, refill to the full mark located on the dip-stick.As far as it possibly as you say mess up a seal, all engines have what they call a crankcase seal located in the front and rear of them. These seals are designed to sustain a considerable amount of backpressure in order for them to operate in a correct manner, they do require a set amount of free clearance for the inner motor components to move and lubricate all other friction bearing parts in them. If they are cramped so to speak in the normal operation of the motor, with having too much oil in them the first thing that will happen is they will create more backpressure than normal, in turn taking out the weaker, thus being the front and or rear crankcase seals, creating a big mess along with further engine problems as alot more oil will leak, eventually resulting in engine failure.
Best to remove the excess oil. I would use a Pela Pump to extract it via the Dipstick hole.
It's fine... don't sweat it.. If it's only half a quart over then you have nothing to worry about.

If it were any more than that I would worry..
A half a quart will not make a big difference at all. I wouldn't worry about it.
The can unscrew the oil change bolt and drain out part of it. If you want to make sure there is no damage you can run a bottle of motor flush through the system and rechange the oil a 1/2 quart shouldn't do much if any damage but if your not sure how much over I would suggest flushing and refilling so it doesn't foul out your spark plugs or injectors
first of all, make sure your friend is correct, check oil with engine off - giving the engine a minute or so to drain down, also the vehicle needs to be on level ground. Check both sides of the dipstick too, some dipstick tubes can give a false reading on one side of the dipstick. If it is overfilled and you have already run 1000 miles on the vehicle, the damage has probably already been done...

Did you have any oil leaks prior to the oil change? My guess is that being a 96 Ford Escort, probably. If it didn't, it probably does now. If it did have leaks, then no, no damage done, just a waste of oil...
pull the oil plug and drain a quart of oil from the engine.

too much oil will cause too much pressure in the engine, resulting in damaged gaskets and oil leaks.
Too much oil can cause a few different seals to go out. It can also flood your spark plugs.

Drain your oil, and replace it with the correct amount.
In all actuality a quart too much oil is worst than a quart too low. Too much oil will damage your engine. I would drain half a quart out until its at the full mark. I worked at a place changing oil and thats what they told us. I cannot remember now what exactly it ruins internally.
if it isnt to much it should hurt anything. if it seem slike it is way to much you could drain some of it. just pull out the oil pan drain bolt slightly and let a little of it drain. beware that if you pull it out to far itll just pour out quick like. so just barely. drain it. check it. and keep doing so. if you drain to much just put some back in until the correct amount is reached.
if its a small oil filter, take it off, empty it , then put it back on
Overfilling the oil is a VERY bad idea! Drain or draw out the excess.
Yes, drain out that extra amount. Too much oil can cause damage. The oil pump creates pressure and the bearing seals of the engine could rupture. This will cause an oil leak that will need to be replaced. It might not happen first time, but will decrease the life of the seal that otherwise might have lasted a long time.

It is easy to drain oil out, just turn the bolt on the oil pan under the car. No big deal.

If it is for 2 cycle use, any outboard dealer has an oil similar to Yamalube. For Mercury outboards it is called Quicksilver. The last I bought years ago was something like six dollars per quart. You could use any 2 cycle mix from Walmart or a place like Lowes. All you're doing is providing lubrication for the bearings in a 2 cycle. In a 4 cycle the clutch sometimes runs in the same oil as the crankcase though.

Check the oil first thing then add oil until its to the full line on the dipstick. If oil is full then you have a faulty oil level sensor or wiring harness.

Is it better to have fixed heating oil price?

Petro offers a one year service with a choice of having heating oil fixed at $2.939 per gallon or one that fluctuates and is currently 2.779 but has a ceiling of 3.109 and can't get higher? Which will be better? Is it better to have fixed heating oil price?
It is a good deal to have a fixed heating oil price because of the constantly rising prices. But sometimes there are contracts and things that may get you into trouble. Some people sign contracts for, lets say, 100 barrels at that price. they pay the company in advance at that fixed price. But sometimes the prices rise so high that the companys cant stay with just what you paid on the contract. The company goes out of business, then youre out of money and the rest of the oil for the season. It sucks. ill try to find the article for you.Is it better to have fixed heating oil price?
I think I'd have to take the fixed price, it's going to go up again this year.
EXCELLENT QUESTION! i went throught the same senario last year when the hurricane damage helped push oil/gas prices to outrageous highs. i locked in on a fix rate natural gas rate and thought i was doing the right thing??? au contraire my friend!! i talked with 2 different gas companies about which one is cheaper the fixed or the variable?? statistically it seems that unless there is some catastrophe the VARIABLE IS CHEAPER!! the fixed is more or less insurance from price shocks, but as we all know most insurance is a rip off!!!!!! i have about 3 months left on my fixed rate plan and then i plan on doing the variable rate from now on. this leaves me the flexability to switch to whomever has the lowest rate anytime i choose and not be obligated for a year. oh by the way the fixed rate i thought was a good deal last summer is way higher than what i currently could get now under a variable rate, but if i break the contract i will have to pay 50$ to do so. next time i will not go fixed!!!!!!!!
Personally I'd go with the fixed. They say it can't go higher than 3.109, but you never know. At least with a fixed rate, you're sure it won't get too high. Plus, oil will go up during the fall and winter. I always buy propane at a fixed rate before the fall and winter, trust me it's a good idea. Go with the fixed. It'll probably go higher, before it goes lower. Hope I was helpful = )

if it is a standard distributer, with a cap and all that like the old ones, you can run into that problem, the solution however escapes me at this point. but what it sounds like you are talking about the gasket that goes between the block and the distributer, replace that and your problem should go away.My car's distributor leaks oil...how can i fix it?
The distributor doesn't have any oil. In fact it has to be bone dry inside.

The distributor (not the cap) is attached to the engine block and I suspect that is where the oil is leaking from.

While the work is easy (if you know what to do), I don't suggest you do it yourself. You risk taking the distributor out and not being able to put it back. A mechanic should charge no more than the parts and 1 hour labor -as it is straight forward remove and replace work.

    Good Luck...
You needs a new distributor and a ------Repair manual--------.You can do it.Easy.

Take note of where the rotor is pointing after removing the cap(NOT the wires)Mark the base at the block for it's location also

I would not think so, what relevance have the people of wales got to do with the price of sunflower oil, in the whole wide world I do not believe a country the size of wales could really have any influence on the price of any commodity such as sunflower oil. I fail to see any connection between wales and the price of sunflower oil
The sunflower they used are grown in country. Sunflower oil take lot of sunflower seeds. And sunflow seed can be ate and used in cooking. We grow most of our own sunflower. It is on crop per year. There are other crops that can growed two time a year in soom area s.

    Cost to fix oil leak?

HI , i have a 2000 nissan sentra I was told I have a oil pan leak and a rear main seal leak, what would be the cost to fix this?Cost to fix oil leak?
The rear main seal is about $17.00 for the part and 5.5 hours for install, I don't know your local labor rates, but that's the flat rate for the job.

And labor for the oil pan R%26amp;R is 1.4 hours, but there is no listing for the pan gasket in Alldatapro.Cost to fix oil leak?
Fix the oil pan seal. Live with the rear main seal leak. It could cost over $500 to do the rear main seal. Contact Nissan about any recalls.
its time to trade it in.. its expensive. very expensive.
The engine needs to be pulled to do both of these. Very labor intensive. Try some stop leak or just get a new car or keep adding oil. But if I were you I would get a second opinion first.
If you would have been here in Pakistan, It would not have costed you more than $100. But I suppose it will be pretty expensive there.
Don't listen to these people... the engine does not have to be pulled to do a rear main seal... the pan gasket and rear seal can be done at the same time ...yes the transmission needs to be dropped... $ 225 labor and parts...MAX!
WELL TO START THE OIL PAN GASKET IS NOT YOUR PROBLEM BECAUSE THERE IS NO OIL PRESSURE IN THE OIL PAN BUT REAR SEAL WELL THERE IS A LOT LABOR TO REPLACE REAR MAIN SEAL THE TRANSMISSION HAS TO COME OUT THAT NORMA LY RUNS LIKE 6. Clean the engin and see were its comming from.Put a new sump plug washer.should do it if its leakink right at the bottom sump.
Ok if it is just a slow leak dont worry about it. you could however clean the engine and see where the oil is coming from . It may be a loose sump plug or a loose or missing bolt , dont take it to a repair shop unless you have found out where the leak is.If it is just a few drops over night dont worry.

    How do i fix a oil weak on a 89';chevy 1500 p/u ?

I always use Lucas oil treatment to stop most of my small oil leaks. I have always had good luck using it.How do i fix a oil weak on a 89';chevy 1500 p/u ?
Where is the leak and how bad is the rate? If it's not a puddle maker just dampening areas I've had great luck since switching to Valvoline Max Life especially if it's a high miler. If you have a mechanical aptitude you could replace the leaking gasket with simple hand tools, unless it the rear main which knowing that era of Chevy it may very well be, then professional help sould be sought but that should be a 1 piece seal so it's not that bad with a 3 foot extension and a tranny jack you should be able to rent. How do i fix a oil weak on a 89';chevy 1500 p/u ?
didnt say where it was leaking but most are easy fix if like the upper engine gaskets so where is the oil coming out at that would help
Replace whatever gasket/ or seal is leaking; most are easy. Its the rear main thats a pain.
One thing you could try is a product called stopleak. Just add it to your oil and it will seal any small leaks and cracks in your system.

Odds are its the front of the pan gasket leaking. Unless the main bearings are worn out letting the crank bounce around its rare for that seal to leak on a mopar engine.

To replace it log onto autozone.com and look up your van in the DIY pages. You'll find complete instructions with pictures.

I have a 1993 Mercedes Benz 300E that has an oil leak, a fairly big one. How much does that cost to fix?

You first have to find out where that oil leak is coming from. If it's from the top of the engine, it may be a bad valve cover gasket or a bad head gasket. If it's from the front, it could be the timing case cover that leaking or the front main seal. These are just examples though that I've mentioned, there are many more possibilities of where the oil may be coming from.

The prices to fix will vary greatly depending on what needs to be replaced.I have a 1993 Mercedes Benz 300E that has an oil leak, a fairly big one. How much does that cost to fix?
Everything costs more on a Mercedes. No one can tell you the price of fixing an oil leak until the source of the leak is known. It could be as simple as a stripped oil drain plug or valve cover screws need tightening. But if it is a rear crankshaft seal or other engine problem, it will cost a lot more. You need a substantial income to own a Mercedes, as they are one of the most expensive cars to maintain, especially as they get old.I have a 1993 Mercedes Benz 300E that has an oil leak, a fairly big one. How much does that cost to fix?
it depends what is leaking and why.

It will probably run $100 to $200 to tell you what is leaking and to provide an estimate for the repair.

Do not run the engine with low oil level - that will result in a repair bill far in excess of the value of the car.
I doubt that its the inexpensinve front main seal because u say its fairly big. I see many 300E with leaking head gaskets.

pull the dip stick and if it looks grey and bubbly then you have a bad head gasket .... and the fix is to re-place the head gasket and that requires the the motor be torn down (by a good mechanic)) If you keep driving the car with the grey oil it is a good bet that you will destroy the motor .......If i have water trying to get into the oil what problem is that and how could it be fix?

If my engine is burning oil then how do i fix it?

the engine needs rebuilt. If my engine is burning oil then how do i fix it?
well it depends on if it is burning inside or outside the engine.....it could be something as simple as a leaking gasket (do you see oil spots on the ground where you park?)...... or as catastrophic as the rings being bad or a broken piston....could be valve seals.....I would find out where the oil is going......check the exhaust.....if it is blowing blue smoke, then you are burning the oil internally in the motor....if the exhaust is clear then it is probbly leaking oil somewhere and burning when it drops on the exhaust......If my engine is burning oil then how do i fix it?
There is no easy fix for an engine burning oil. It could be rings, or it could be valve seals or both.
    replace your rings
Really it depends on how bad it is. You have a leak somewhere. It won't kill your car if it is not that bad.
over haul with new rings and gaskets etc.
Check compression. Is there a lot of blue smoke coming out of the exhaust after slowing down on the engine? Valve stem rubbers. Low compression? Rings. But changing only the rings might not be the best idea, if there's an edge on the inside of the cilinder wall. Been there dun that...nope, no good. Rings will hit it and cause more trouble.

Go ahead and get compression tested.Get the engine running, get a long screwdriver and listen like a doctor putting the handle to your ear and the other end on different spots near the cilinder head. You might hear a knock on one spot and nowhere else, maybe a bad piston.

  • How do I fix the lifters noise in the 97 honda passport, I have already used heavy engine oil but no luck.?

They are noisy because they either dont have enough oil pressure due to faulty oil pump, the lobes on the camshaft are almost gone creating excessive lash or the lifters themselves are bad. There is not lifter fix in a bottle. How do I fix the lifters noise in the 97 honda passport, I have already used heavy engine oil but no luck.?
You may not have a lifter noise at all.

Those Isuzu engines have dual rocker shafts in the heads that are prone to wear. The rockers wear a grove into the shafts.

If indeed it is a sticky lifter, heavier oil won't help but a product called SEA FOAM might. You can also pour a can of MARVEL MYSTERY OIL in the crankcase, but I would suggest more frequent oil changes with a good quality oil.How do I fix the lifters noise in the 97 honda passport, I have already used heavy engine oil but no luck.?

Whats up with my engine oil and how can I fix it.?

So recently I started to notice that while I check my oil when the engine is running, it was really far up the dipstick and there were certain places where it wasn't even sticking to the stick. So I changed it and now it all sticks on there buy its still way far up the stick. If I check the oil with the engine off, its perfect. Whats up and how do I fix it. It's a 1970 Mustang with a 351C. Thanks guys!Whats up with my engine oil and how can I fix it.?
you dont check the oil with the engine running.the oil is spash everwhere and you cant get a correct readingWhats up with my engine oil and how can I fix it.?
why would you check the oil when the engine is running? Read your owners manual. You only check transmission fluid when the vehicel is running, not oil. You will get an inaccurate reading and while the car is running, the oil is out in the engine, doing its thing, not hanging around in the oil chamber so there is no way to tell if your oil level is fine or not.

There is nothing wrong to fix.
When the engine is running, a good portion of the oil in the crank case is whipped up into a misted fog throughout the entire crankcase - oil is squirted from the bearings and lifter bores and thrown all over the place by the rotating crank - and the dipstick gets confused.

Shut the engine down and wait a few minutes before you check the level.
Hello friend; You cannot check the oil with the motor running. The proper way is to check after car has been off for at least an hour, diesel engines have to marks on the dipstick, one running, one not running. I don't know of a gas motor that has the dual marks. Good luck !!
Well, you never check ur oil with the engine running. Let it sit for a few minutes 4 thte oil to run back down, then check it. It will give a correct reading then.
    Engine oil = Engine off.

    Transmission fliud = Engine running.
you don't check the oil with the motor running, you shut the engine off and wait about 5 minutes and then check it.
nothing is wrong with your car. it just that you arent suppose to check the engine oil with the engine is running.
You are not suppose to check the oil with the engine running.
It's ruined,I will come and get the car from you.

Every time i oil my valves on my trumpet, it wont play, like something is blocking it. I dont know how to fix?

Have you removed the valves completely at some point before or during oiling?

The valves, springs, and caps must be put back inside in a certain place or it will cause blockage in your valve tubing. I suggest you make sure everything is in your valves in correct alignment, or, take it to an experienced trumpet player and have them show you how to fix it. This is an easy solution, so it could be handled by any veteran player:)Every time i oil my valves on my trumpet, it wont play, like something is blocking it. I dont know how to fix?
Yep, They are both right, You have the valves mis aligned in the casing, and the holes in them are not lined up right. Any trumpet player with a little experince can help you out with that.Every time i oil my valves on my trumpet, it wont play, like something is blocking it. I dont know how to fix?
The reason (as aloready mentioned) is that the valves are not lined up properly.

If you have had all the valves out at the same time make sure that you put them back in the right order - if they have got mixed up the instrument will not play as each valve is different. If you look closely there should be a number stamped into the metal of each valve (usually) - 1,2 or 3. Number 1 valve is the one nearest to your lips when you are playing.

If you take a valve out and look at it you should see a collar or peg arrangement (sometimes plastic or metal depending on the age of the instrument). These pegs should fit into a slot on the inside of the valve making sure that the valve does not spin around while you are playing. These can become worn - if they are - take it to an instrument repair shop who might be able to get replacements or even make you a replacement.

It is possible on some instruments to put the valve in 180 degress around (a half turn) and it will still feel like it has located. The best way to cure this is to take all the valves out then replace number 1. Blow through the instrument - it should blow freely with the valve up or down - if it doesn't - take it out and turn it round 1 half turn before putting it back.

Repeat the above with valve 2 then valve 3 and all should be well.

It is also possible that you have some gunk in your trumpet - give it a good wash out - use a flexible brush to clean out all the crud .... its amazing what you can find down there.

    Good luck with it !
your valves are not aligned right. Try taking them out and turnig them until you get a sound. if you take your valves all th way out and do not place them back properly, the holes in the valves dont line up which makes it so no air can get threw.

Oil in water- has this been worsened by friend trying to fix car?

In short my water kept going down very quickly in my car, and friend suggested that the head gasket might need replacing( upon taking engine apart , it wasn't). The job was a very long one ( taking all the engine apart). He thought he had fixed it but then I got oil in the water.

The car is now at the garage and they are still unsure why there is oil in the water ( going to be an expensive repair)

Has my friend worsened the problem by taking the job on in the first place?

Only answers please from those with mechanical experience, not interested in silly / sarcastic comments !!

Thank youOil in water- has this been worsened by friend trying to fix car?
If he was inexperienced then he might have not tightened up the head bolts correctly or missed out something else....

Head gaskets can still fail, even if they come out in one piece. I wouldn't go blaming your friend, but if he didn't really know what he was doing then he could have caused other problems. ie. if the gasket had gone, he'd replaced it but didn't do the bolts up right, then it would still leak.

If the car never overheated, then I wouldn't have thought the block or head is cracked. A new engine might be cheaper than trying to pull apart this one again...

PS. My gf is looking for one of these, how much would you sell it for? I'll fix it ;-%26gt;Oil in water- has this been worsened by friend trying to fix car?
He probably did not worsen the problem unless he lost parts or installed something incorrectly.

Of course the delay in getting it fixed hasn't made it any better, and clearly whatever was done didn't fix the problem.

A head gasket fault IS commonly associated with oil in the water or water in the oil, so he was right about _suspecting_ the gasket. However, as another answerer suggested, there could be a crack (or some other leak) somewhere else that is allowing oil to escape into the coolant.

    As the old saying goes, it might be time to ';jack up the radiator cap, and drive a new car under it!';

(oh, sorry, I forgot you didn't want silly comments)
It is possible that the cylinder head is cracked or that the head is warped, unfortunately both of these problems will be worsened after trying to replace only the head gasket.
    What kind of car?

If the engine had been hot before he took it apart to change the head gasket, the head could be warped or even cracked. Tell me what car and I will tell you my experience with that particular engine.

Please reread my question to you- had the car overheated BEFORE he took the head off?
was the head machined? was a new gasket and head bolts fitted? if yes either the head or the block is cracked. and require pressure testing to eliminate.
possibly, if he is not a mechanic he had no business messing with it. if the head gasket was blown he should have probably been able to tell when he took the head off. it could be a cracked head or block

wHow to fix and oil leak?
Most carnk seals go bad because the owner is using bery cheap oil. THe oil decomposes and makes sludge that fills the lips of the seals, and then it hardens. Many cars can be repaired without fussing with the seals at all. Use a good de-sludging chemical, like butyl cello-solve. Then use Mobil One or ELF oil ALWAYS afterwards. These oils will revitalize the seals, prolong oil change intervals, and clean the inside of the engine as you drive. The bonus is that your fuel mileage improves, too. Forget regular dino oils altogether!!
umm... you really have to be more specific. Slap some RTV on it.

Ok. Do you have the required amount of oil? Check to see if it is low first.

It may need changed. If this has not fixed your problem. There are two other possible easy fixes. One being your pressure gauge needs replaced. The second would be a new sending unit. Now if those things do not work it could be your oil pump needs replaced.

lucas engine additive ,you could try it ,it should slow the burning down.If not engine overhaul.Am i burning oil and if so how do i fix it?
If it only smokes when started most likely the valve stem seals have either worn out or worked themselves up off of their correct location. If you constantly burn oil I would first pull the valve covers to see if the upper part of the cylinder is full of sludge keeping the oil from running back down into the pan. If they are reasonably clean you may have a piston ring problem.
rebuild the engine ...piston rings are worn out

There is a good chance you have a bad oil pressure sending unit. This is an inexpensive repair (probably less than $100 parts and labor). You may have a wiring problem or a faulty instrument cluster but if your oil pressure is not really low it is most likely the sending unit. A pressure guage can be put in place of the sending unit to make sure before it is replaced. Good luck.I have a 1994 Lincoln Continental an my DCL light keeps comming on how do I fix it...also my oil pressure?
The dcl light means that the data communication link has failed, this usually means the instrument cluster has failed internally and will need to be replaced. It really wont hurt anything other than your nerves.

The oil pressure light is either a sensor or low oil pressure, I would have the pressure checked with a manual guage to see if it is good(over 15-20 psi at hot idle at a minimum) if OK, you need a sending unit, if low, needs internal engine work (ouch).....

    How to fix oil pressure?

before you go replacing any thing you should do more testing to see where the problem lies. low oil pressure is the result of many different situations, like low oil level, a pressure relief valve sticking, worn bearings, i could go on, but all of the listed situations and many of the other possibilities have different solutions. How to fix oil pressure?
You might not have to replace motor , but it will be a chore to fix . If motor not bad because of oil pressure yet , you could replace the pump . Only thing is with that car you will have to pull the motor . And then there is the chance it might not last long . So decision is , since motor is out , why not replace with another anyway ?

Without any more info, I can only say look for the leak's point of occurrence. If you see oil on the bottom or side of the engine, follow the oil trail upwards to the farthest point. Replace the gasket in that area. If you're a poor boy like me, dry the leaky oil spot up ';and I do mean dry';, and then smear some high temperature black gasket maker (in a tube) over the area and pray it works.

You ';should'; be okay. Drain the gas from the oil pan, fill with oil and drain again. Refill with the proper oil. Good luck.I accidentally put gas in the oil pan of my lawnmower %26amp; didn't notice until the smoke came out. Can I fix it?
If the mower was still running when you discovered the problem, then it's possible you didn't do any fatal damage. Drain, refill with oil and give it a shot. If it is blown, maybe you can play dumb and bring it back under warranty: but this isn't the ethical choice.
don't run it 1st you need to drain all the oil out i mean all of it then get add motor flush with some fresh oil and then run it for about 30 min so gets throw the motor and clean it then drain it once again and ad fresh oil that should do it and pray that it works lol if you got it in time it should be fine
You might have cleaned sludge out yer mowers engine. Get the oil and gas out and put some fresh oil in. I use diesel oil instead of gas but hay you done did the deed right? Dump the engine and restock it with the correct amount of oil and mow on. It should be ok.
If the mower engine will still crank easily, then just remove the gas/oil mixture and replace. Nice job getting it clean and all.

Most auto parts stores will have a replacement plug with a different thread pitch .

Use that along with teflon tape and a nylon crunch washer and don't over tighten it anymore.
This happened to me. My boyfriend had to take the drain pan off. It was kind of a pain. There are tools you can buy. Try them first.
You can get an expandable plug or get a new one that is self threading.
just go to auto zone or any parts store and get a self tapping oil plug and put it in, it will cut its own threads.

    Re-gassed? LOL Report Abuse

If there's a little shock absorber looking thing or two attached to the trunk lid/hatch, those are supposed to hold it up. They're pressurized with gas, and after a while they wear out and leak. Any auto parts store will have them for most cars. Just tell them what you said here.

My Cadillac cat era has water and oil mix together how do i fix it?

It is a1999 cadilac catera we had head replace an we put new gasket on a new raditor on new hoses onMy Cadillac cat era has water and oil mix together how do i fix it?
Someone must didnt Torque the head down right or the gasket moved or something. anyway You need to replace intake manifold gaskets whenever the heads are off. Coolant flows through the intake/plenum as well %26amp; these need replacing anyways on older cars. Hurry up oil %26amp; antifreeze makes a low-grade acid mix that eats up vital engine parts. My Cadillac cat era has water and oil mix together how do i fix it?
yea man, sorry to hear that. i bet you spent about 1500 or more on that. those cars have a lot of problems, but are a nice car. take it back to the caddy house and trade it in or get ready to drop the same amount or more on the repair.

said repair cost totals may equal to not keeping the car. if your cars worth 5500,why sink 3000 into it and still risk another problem, you be better off getting a better car
When this happens, your coolant is mixing with your oil.

    A very bad thing.

You should check your gasket again, as well as the head level(if it was leveled by a professional.)

Also check your hoses to make sure they are going where their supposed to.
Depending on weather is in the radiator or engine.

In radiator, it's a busted oil cooler and the radiator will have to be removed and fixed, then the transmission will have to be flushed.

If engine, odds are it's a blown head gasket. Both are professional jobs.

Continuing to run it will do serious damage to either system.
Did they replace the head or just replace the gasket...this is a big difference, if they only replaced the Head Gaskets, and you had oil and water all ready mixing, the heat could have caused the head to crack, which you mechanic may not have pressure checked the heads...and told you they did.

This is not uncommon...take it to a second mechanic and have it checked.

The not starting is a coincidence. Drain the oil and fill with the right stuff - no need to flush the tank as the small amount that will be left will make little difference to the quality of the new (right) oil.I put 2-cycle oil in a 4-cycle 5hp Briggs %26amp; Stratton outboard. Now it won't start. How do I fix this? (revised
Your engine will be fine. There is not a huge difference between 2 stroke and 4 stroke oil. Even if you ran the engine with the 2 stroke oil, you would be fine.
no need to flush but soon after change the oil again and start fresh.

How do you fix an oil leak on a truck?

the spot where it's leaking is by the oil panHow do you fix an oil leak on a truck?
Well, the leak might be there, or it might be somewhere else. What you should do is go to an auto parts store, and ask for some flourescent leak detector. This is an oil with a flourescent additive. You put it in, and then use a black light to see where it first appears. It's easy to use on a vehicle that has leaked oil, because you can ignore all the old oil. The leakage shows up very specifically. You can get a black light bulb at some hardware stores. You don't have to change the oil afterwards, as the flourescent dye has no effect on the engine. There is some investment in the light, but maybe you can borrow one from a hippie friend who uses it to light up his posters. I would put the truck up on stands, put some cardboard under it, and then wait until dark, add the dye, and fire up the engine. Then lay underneath with the black light and watch what happens for 5-10 minutes. Once you have determined the ACTUAL leak location, you can decide what to do to fix it. You want to look in a good manual for the fix, because it may be necessary to drop the pan, but not always, and you don't want to do more work than you need to.

Good Luck. How do you fix an oil leak on a truck?
you have to find out exactly where its coming from first ,it could be coming from above the oil pan and running down on it,id clean it off real good and see if i could pin point where it was coming from first, good luck.

I'm a mechanic,is very embarrassed to me ,that some those that to you.

I apology in the name of the men and women that work in the field of maintenance. Is 800.00 to fix power steering contaminated with motor oil a Ripoff?
It depends on how long the oil was in the system.

Oil in a power steering system can ruin the rubber seals in the pump and the rack. It can also cause the hoses to soften %26amp; rupture.

Even if he flushed it and refilled with power steering fluid, the seals would go out eventually and you would have to replace both parts anyway.
If you don't have any ';real'; problem like a leak or not steering well, then I'd agree to just flush it a few times and refill and hope for the best.
If you dumped some oil in and flushed it back out right away you'd be ok. But if she took the car in because the power steering had already failed, the reason it failed is because the seals are destroyed.
Bit of a long shot here, but I wouldn't have thought it would be too bad to simply flush out the oil. Main difference with PSF (power steering fluid) is that it is a type of hydraulic oil that is designed to work under higher pressures and is of less viscosity than motor oil.

How did the system get contaminated and how much motor oil was put into the system? How long has it been there? If it's still driveable then get it back to your place for a second opinion. 800 is a lot of money to be paying for a fluid flush. Is this guy on about replacing the pump and/or steering rack too?

It's possible damage may have occurred to the pump by overheating of the oil, but to be fair - oil is oil for the most part, so lubricant and cooling properties will still be there.

Good luck, hope you get it sorted :-)
yes, it sounds easy but it is a pain and time consuming. you have to pay the mechanic for his time which is usually about 100 an hour or so.
Baloney !!! Power steering ';floid';is no more than 10 weight oil with out all the additives they put in motor oil. Don't worry about it. The worst it could do is look a different color. Drive it and forget it.

    depends from where its leaking

it could be a simple gasket or seal thats gone and could cost a few tens of pounds, it could be a major component thats cracked or broken and cost hundreds, possibly thousand plus

in any event get it fixed soon hydraulics are used in braking, steering, gearbox and some other systems. the really scary ones are braking %26amp; steering systems. you defiantely do not want to drive a car with a hydraulic leak if it affects those.

if its a Citroen you have the added ';benefit'; of suspension systems. reapirs to citroens steering or suspension systems can be horrendous.

unless you are a competant mechanic then get it to a garage as soon as possible
It might be a minor matter but has the potential to be very serious and dangerous - get it fixed by a competent garage - do not try this at home!
Chances are it's brake fluid. Brake fluid is the same color as hydraulic fluid. Yes, it is bad...very bad. Have it repaired by a mechanic, someone that is familiar with brake systems. Most likely it is a brake line $30-$150 or brake hose $50-$60.
if its red its your tranny and it may just need a new gasket.
clean up the oil first so you can see where is it leaking from and check the level of the oil see if you fix it yourself if it just needs tightening
Might be brake fluid, check it out.
Try to find the source of the leak and then see if it's something you can fix yourself i.e. tightening a nut, bolt or line of somesort. If it's beyond your capability then take it to a shop.

what ever you do dont hit the resect more then three time, it can build up oil in the heat exchanger and cause a fire inside thaat you cant put out.

It depends how new or old the unit is. When it starts up it could be getting enough oil at start up but not to stay running. there can be so many things wrong with the unit. And since you didnt give what kind and how old and model ect I would say spend the 70bucks and have A Tech come out and service the Unit. If you have not had the unit checked out in some time this would be a good idea to do anyway

My Stihl 025 chain saw no longer pumps oil to the bar. How can I fix this?

If you happen to have an air compressor, turn the regulator down to about 3-4 psi. Next uncap the oil fill and place the air nozzle into the hole surrounded by an old rag. Hold it tight and just give it a puff of air.

Caution; the oil may blow back towards you and the rag so wear safety glasses.

Put some old newspapers under the saw because when the obstruction blows out so will the oil.

I have an oil leak, how much does it cost to fix including tax and can I do it myself?

It depends on make model and year of your car, and the nature of the problem..., it will hopefully be your seals, but you will need someone to identify the problem first. However, do not purchase the stop oil leak as a permanent solution go to the dependable and reputable mechanic to solve your problem because a few hundred dollars or even a thousand is a lot better than losing your vehicle entirely, and you will lose your vehicle if you turn your engine over without oil in it, it will seize up and you will have to replace the engine entirely, which may be worth more than the car is worth!I have an oil leak, how much does it cost to fix including tax and can I do it myself?
The cost varies, depending on were the seals come from. Yes, you can do it yourself, but it's better to have a mechanic fix it. If the mechanic fixes it %26amp; it keeps leaking or tares up, he has to fix and replace anything that tares up because of his faulty work free of charge. So I strongly advise you to let a mechanic fix it!!!!!I have an oil leak, how much does it cost to fix including tax and can I do it myself?

You will have to take the keys off and clean the keyboard with alcohol and cotton swabs. Just make sure you have a refeence keyboard for when you put it back together. Or you can buy a new one from a site like Newegg.com for probably 5 or 10 bucks.

Since running out of oil, my furnace will trip and i will have to reset the red button. any way to fix this?

i have replace the filter that is coming out of the oil tankSince running out of oil, my furnace will trip and i will have to reset the red button. any way to fix this?
You have to prime the fuel line because there are air bubbles in it and it is causing the burner to shut off. There is a screw or bolt on the front of the burner near where the oil line attached that needs to be undone. Place a canister under the burner and switch the burner back on. Oil and air bubbles will stream down into the canister. Once the oil stream is smooth and no more air bubbles are coming out the line is primed and can reattach the screw/bolt at which point your burner should fire up and be all set. Without doing this the oil line will remain air bound and this will continue non-stop.

You may need a technician to do this if you are not experienced or comfortable doing it.Since running out of oil, my furnace will trip and i will have to reset the red button. any way to fix this?
You also need a tune up done to the boiler to replace the nozzle and inside pump screen. and when you run out of oil, after filling tank leave burner off for an hour so oil can settle in tank.

How to fix needing an oil change?

can we just add a quart of oil until we get paid next week? or will this not fix the problemHow to fix needing an oil change?
you need an oil change and cant afford it right now?? i take it thats what you mean. well first check your oil, if its low, then add some. if its not, you will be ok. you dont need to do a oil change right on the exact time, but dont wait too longHow to fix needing an oil change?
your not too clear on your problem so I try to answer a couple of ways. If your due for an oil change because of mileage, it won't hurt to go a little longer till you get paid. Most oil change places tell you that you should change the oil way too soon. (that's so they get more business). Check you owners manual or call the dealership for you car and ask them how often the factory recomends ( usually twice as many miles as the rip of oil change places) And go with what they tell you. If your low on oil, then yes, you must add the proper amount of oil to protect your motor. If it shows on the dip stick at the ';add'; line, that means add one quart of oil. If it is still above that but below the ';full'; line you can wait to add the oil to bring it back up to full. If you want to go much longer in between oil changes, use synthetic oil, I use Mobil 1 synthetic with fantastic results. It's more expensive than oil ( I get mine for 25.00 for a 4 gallon bottle at wal mart) but the advantage is you go about 4 times as many miles before having to change it so you save money that way, and it's better for your motor and helps it last much longer. I usually get 300,000 miles on my cars before I trade them off with synthetic oils and only about 185,000 with regular oil.

Hope this helped. If not, ask your question a little clearer and I'll try to answer it better.

    Good luck
    yes just add oil
if its only 1 qt low you can drive it that way until next week
just add the quart of oil now and you will be fine until you have time to get the oil changed.
You can't add a quart of oil unless it is one quart low. If you do you will cause it to leak--permanently. A light telling you to change oil is just a reminder--it can wait a week or even a month. However, if the oil light is on because you are low on oil then add as much as it needs. You tell this by taking out the dip stick, wiping it, reinserting and seeing how much you';ve got. If it is low one or more quarts then one quart will help.
1st - Check your oil level. If the oil level is fine, don't add any oil. If you over-fill it you can blow the oil seals and cause a nasty leak.

2nd - What problem are you trying to fix? An oil change is meant to be preventative maintenance, not a cure-all.

3rd - If you see what looks like glitter in your oil, you have a much bigger problem than just needing an oil change. That glitter is bearing material.

4th - If your oil just looks like Hershey syrup and the oil level is fine, putting it off for another pay period won't kill you. Just get it changed as soon as you can.

Liberals, how would YOU fix our oil issues TODAY?

We don't have a replacement ready to take it's place TODAY. So what are your ideas with that in mind.Liberals, how would YOU fix our oil issues TODAY?
Lower the speed limit to 55.

Crack down on energy speculators and close the Enron Loophole.

Invest heavily into building more nuclear reactors (yes they are far safer and more energy efficient than their predecessors were back in the late 70's).Liberals, how would YOU fix our oil issues TODAY?
The issue is any alternative will also take time to perfect. Jackpi's answer does not say who pays for all of the cost to develop fueling stations, what do we do with the cars we have now, how much of a strain on the environment will it be to replace all cars with electric cars and what have you. Has anyone thought ahead about what kind of damage the spent batteries will have on our environment?

Every action has an equal and opposite reaction. Drill now and spend time researching and developing GOOD alternatives. Alternatives that have been well thought out and not just ideas that sound good politically or can be used to promote a political agenda.
Walk. Ride a bike. Live closer to work. Invest in alternate forms of transportation. I mean we made the transition from horse to automobile, innovation will help us do it again.

But by addressing your question to ';liberals'; you limit your receptivity already. If Einstein was a ';liberal' then you would qualify his viewpoint? Take the blinders off, dude. The GOP has your mind, they really think you are stupid because you can be so easily led to your own destruction. GOP deals with big money corporations, that know and get what they pay for. At least the Dems have to pretend to be for the people Republicans don't even have to pretend. Who do you think is making all these oil deals? Who do you think has the US trapped in combustible engine auto's

and dominated energy from its inception. GOP like minded people my friend. None of the ';conservatives'; that you root for, care what happens to you. They don't care how you handle gas prices. Their solution...make more money.
Great question, and you will get few if any answers from the leftist.

They all sit around and whine about how we need alternative fuels, but not a one can tell you how we get that.

I love listening to them talk about solar, wind and water power. But, not a one can seem to show me how to run a city or a car for that matter on solar, wind and water.

    We need new nuke plants.

    We need more refineries.

We need to drill in the Gulf and ANWR.

We need less feel good political policy.

If the likes of Obama get into office, his plan is to raise taxes on the working class to give to the lazy. That's his plan for high fuel prices. He will turn the middle class into the working poor!
Change to totally electric vehicles powered by Solar, Wind, Water, and Gravity! Require all truck stops to convert to electric recharge stations immediately! Use the Geo thermal heat, tidal forces, and wave currents to provide power generation! This should be done by the Feds, not the private sector! They haven't solved the nuclear waste problem as of yet! It stays hot for 10K years! And nuclear plants produce thermal pollution in rivers and lakes where they dump their heated waste water! Nuclear plants are definitely NOT the answer!
    fix this:

    http://finance.yahoo.com/echarts?s=USDEU鈥?/a>

problem solved, until Next Generaion nucear plants are ready to be built to supply our power and fuel.
Regulate the speculators and the oil companies immediately and devote real money to alternative energy research.

It has been estimated that regulation of the commodites market could result in a 25 to 50 percent drop in the price of oil.
If anyone has ever played Utopia or Civilization or a game like that then they would know that you have to build things like refineries and power plants to support your population or you LOSE!

    It is only common sense.
It can't be fixed today. It's Sunday. Nothing gets done on Sunday.
They do not have any ideas they just don't want to drill, for some reason they think they can burn Caribou steaks in their gas tank.!~!
Get rid of that Enron Loophole to wheel in the speculation.
Like No Way! Like OMG I'm going to complain about Liberals!
No one can fix oil issues today. We should consider several factors when discussing oil.

    1. We are dealing with a finite resource that is near exhaustion. We can find and exploit some limited new oil discoveries, but these would only delay the inevitable by a fairly short time. Experts have stated that Anwar and the Dakotas will not significantly change our situation.

    2. Oil (as well as other fossil fuels) is creating an environmental nightmare for us with Climate Change. For this reason, it is advisable for us to find alternatives as quickly as possible.

    3. Frankly, I think the increase in the cost of oil is (although painful) a good thing. Price will impact behavior and cause us to conserve fuel.

    4. We need alternatives. I believe that Nuclear is one very good alternative that should be exploited much more. We can also explore other alternatives like wind and solar. I think we should also aggressively pursue development of fuel alternatives as a national priority like the Apollo program.

I believe that we will experience pain no matter what we do. Temporary solutions that don't really solve the problem will only delay the inevitable and make the final day of reckoning that much more painful. We have to confront the problem now.

By the way, most on this board are probably too young to recall, but our nation has been in this position before...there was an energy crisis about 40 years ago. We didn't act then to solve the problem so being in the same position today is a result of our inaction. Alaska didn't provide a permanent solution then, and it won't solve the problem now.

I've read that cars are the major polluter and consumer of oil. All electric cars are about 2 years out (both Honda %26amp; GM). My car has 172,000 miles and I'm timing a new car for about 3 to 4 years. As an aside, I think the average life span of cars is about 6 years or so. With this in mind, once an economical reliable alternative presents itself, I think that normal obsolescence will phase out the old vehicles.

how can i fix my mower that has oil in it where the gas goes?My son poured oil in my mower how can i fix it?
It should be fine as long as you didn't try to start it without first flushing out the tank.

There should be a small black rubber hose at the bottom of the tank. Get a bucket ready and disconnect the hose. It's better to lightly clamp the hose with a vise grips and then pull the end off from the carbuerator.

Let the contaminated fuel run out into the bucket. Rinse the tank out with a little gasoline until it runs clear from the hose. Then, reconnect the hose and fill the tank with clean fresh gasoline and start the motor.

It should run normally. My son poured oil in my mower how can i fix it?
You will need to get the oil out of the fuel tank by draining. Don't listen to the guy that said to tip the mower upside down. That is the dumbest thing that you could do. You will get crankcase oil in places that you don't want it and it will be a mess. Just drain the tank through the hose. You can even take the tank off and clean it. Also, some oil in the gas won't hurt anything but may cause a bit of smoking but no damage. What ever you do don't tip the thing upside down. If anyone tells you to do that walk away.
suggest to place the lawnmower upside down atop of a large bucket with the gas tank cap off to allow contents to drain into large bucket. Do this about 2 times and you should be ok.This will probably need two people to do this. Dispose of contents drained from mower tank using approved ,safe container .Do not smoke or create spark/flame during this procedure and until contaminated contents have been safely disposed of.
Depending on what model mower you have will depend on what is the best recommended way to fix this. Check out http://www.thelawnmower.info/ and go to your brand of mower. You will find manuals for each of the model brands that will clearly show you what is recommended. Hope this helps
Dump it out and clean the tank, and throw some new gas in it........my guess is that it will run just fine........it may smoke for a short time a little, but my guess is you are fine..........just be happy it wasn't sand. Good luck and have a happy new year.
disconnect the fuel line to the carburetor and flush the tank with petrol.......you may have to flush the carb as well
take the tank off and wash it out---with gasoline

How to fix a mercury sable, transmission oil leak?

1994 Mercury Sable, 3.6 motorHow to fix a mercury sable, transmission oil leak?
Sable with a 3.6L engine? Sables do not have 3.6L engines. So after you change the filter on something you don't have maybe that will take care of the leak. How to fix a mercury sable, transmission oil leak?
agree with SVo man, but usually depending upon where the leak is and how severe, we usually start recommending rebuild at that time... as if the transmission has to come out (which is about 8-10 hours if I remember), it isn't much more than a few hundred more to basically rebuild it at most mechanic shops..
Put in a new gasket or O ring

While using magical oils is it good to cleanse yourself first before handling them first also can oils fix a?

Spell? While using magical oils is it good to cleanse yourself first before handling them first also can oils fix a?
I think you need to educate yourself a little more before you start practicing with spells...as they can be a very powerful thing. I'm not sure what you're practicing, but you can go to just about any bookstore and look in the New Age section and find many books on spells, Wicca, oils and things in that nature. Good luck but first do your homework.

Clearly based on the way you worded your question you seemed a little ignorant on what you were doing. I was just trying to help and not insult you in any way and the name calling is completely ridiculous and uncalled for. While using magical oils is it good to cleanse yourself first before handling them first also can oils fix a?
I would say that before a ritual or magical working, yes, it is a good idea to cleanse yourself and your working space - if nothing more than to clear yourself of any ';excess baggage'; and put yourself in the right mindset to focus your intentions into your work. I don't exactly perform a ritual to make my essential oil blends though (I assume this is what you are referring to by magical oils?)

I don't understand your question about if oils can fix a spell? Sorry. What do you mean by this?
Can magical oils ';fix'; a spell? Not that I am aware of, but then again I have never tried that? I wouldn't count on it. And when you say cleanse yourself, that's a trickier question. Obviously your physical self should be clean, and your intention should be clean. Meaning that whatever you are going to be using the oils for should be on the up and up. Other than that, I think you're fine.
you should always be cleansed in both body and mind before working a spell. I'm not sure what you mean by oils fixing a spell though.

How would i fix a oil leak in my f150?

i had the dealership tell me a gasket needed to be replaced. and for the extremely low price of 800 bills....any way, with spark plug changing, oil-changing skills and a haynes manual, should i attempt to drop the pan and dig in or just keep adding oil.. ps the leak isn't to bad ..How would i fix a oil leak in my f150?
depends on the year, engine and your patience level.if it was mine i would dig in 800 sounds like they need to make a house payment. How would i fix a oil leak in my f150?
This isn't a DIY. You have to pull the engine to get to the rear main seal.

    Fords are famous for this.
Try an oil stop leak product. Then use high oil for high mileage vehicles. It has ingredients that swell up the seals and slow the leak. Not worth spending 800 on my brutha'.

I spilled scented oil on an end table and two spots of varnish rubbed off. How do I fix these?

try vinegar, it covers any loss of varnish on small to medium areas.I spilled scented oil on an end table and two spots of varnish rubbed off. How do I fix these?
You have to sand it back down and reaply varnish. Or you could just fudge and get spray laqure and see if that works first.I spilled scented oil on an end table and two spots of varnish rubbed off. How do I fix these?
If the varnish rubbed off...Sand down the entire table, and revarnish it.
As long as it's just the varnish and not the stain, you can apply another coat of varnish to the table top.
depending on the size of the spots, you may try a artist brush with very little acetone and 'spread' the varnish over the spots from surrounding areas.
Revarnish the table...once the varninsh is gone, that's the only way to fix the spots.
white wine a great stain remover believe it or not

  • My oil ran out on my oil fired boiler refilled but on restart it fires in short burst can i fix this myself?

will i need an engineer for this is there any riskMy oil ran out on my oil fired boiler refilled but on restart it fires in short burst can i fix this myself?
You have air in your line going into the fire box. You can get the air out of the line yourself but it can be a messy job.

It will work its way out if the boiler is working and you will get the short burst until it is all out. This is the air I was talking about coming through the line. The oil burns the air does not so you have what you refer to as short burst.

There should be no danger but will not hurt to stay close and watch it for a while until it settles down.My oil ran out on my oil fired boiler refilled but on restart it fires in short burst can i fix this myself?
Moisture might have had accumulated where your oil should be. I have encountered the same problem in the past in one of my repair jobs. The magic that I have learned from it is unforgettable. It is cheap and quick. I sprayed the chamber with WD-40 with 3 short spurts dislodging moisture out of it. It should work as well with your boiler. Good luck
Sounds like you got air in the line.
Don't attempt this yourself. It's too risky.
    i would get an engineer
