No, changing your oil will not cause your check engine light to turn back off. Check engine lights are there to let you know if something is wrong with the engine or emissions system.

no that wont fix it. if the check engine light comes on you need to get a scope and see what it could be. ive noticed alot of times its the oxygen sensor but u have to get it scoped.

Whatever happens, they will have to reset your check engine light, so you'll probably have to take it in. If you are out of your warranty, whatever is done will cost you. But how much depends on the problem your car is experiencing. The last thing you want to do is ignore it and hope it goes away!
I doubt it. Disconnecting the battery might get the light to go off. In some cases that will damage the computer. In my case it won't hurt anything. By the way getting the light to go off does not necessarily mean that the problem is fixed.

What the mechanic will do is to plug in a diagnostic tool into the car'scomputer , and this will in turn print out certain trouble codes where the problems could be. He then checks these areas.

In a moment it will diagnose the reason for the light on and allow the warning light to be reset. Sometimes the light comes on for no good reason but usually there is something happening you need to know about and act upon.
