Assuming the gauge is functioning correctly, low oil pressure is almost always caused by worn bearings. As the gaps between bearings and the other components widen more oil leaks out and the pressure drops. Sometimes a high volume oil pump can be added to help ';get by'; because it will pump enough that oil will still go everywhere it needs to...but that is just a band-aid fix. You don't say how many miles you have on this vehicle but this is usually caused by worn rod %26amp; main bearings. If this is the case a total rebuild is in order. low on oil - - - - - add proper level of oil
oil pump worn out - replace it
pickup tube clogged - clean that out too - while the pumps off.
Sludge buildup inside the engine - - replace the engine
Could also be the oil pressure sending unit.
