Do products like bars leak really work to fix leaks such as an oil pan gasket leak?

bars leak is for the radiator and all that stuff does is plug you cooling system and heater core up. There is nothing on the market that will fix an oil pan leak excect replacing the oil pan gasket.Do products like bars leak really work to fix leaks such as an oil pan gasket leak?
Bars leak may be a radiator product but I know what you refer. They will slow the leaking for a while. They also increase the viscosity of yuor oil, if your in a cold climate may make your car not start.Do products like bars leak really work to fix leaks such as an oil pan gasket leak?
no it doesn't. take the pan off and clean it. then get a new gasket or use a tube of gasket sealant. works really good.
bars leak is generally used in raditors for small pin hole leaks...an oil pan gasket is cheap..lesss than $10...and depending on car type VERY easy to replace
Those products are just band-aids at best. It's always better to do the actual repair and be done with it.
Just repair /replace the gasket.

Theres oil leaking on the gas pedal(car). How much does that cost to fix? or can I do it at home?

There's oil leaking unto the gas pedal of my ford focus, zx5. I want to know if I can fix that at home, or do I have to take it to the job? If I have to take it to the shop, hoe much will that cost?Theres oil leaking on the gas pedal(car). How much does that cost to fix? or can I do it at home?
WHAT YEAR FORD FOCUS ZX5 IS IT. BEST THING TO DO IS TAKE IT TO THE NEAREST DEALER.Theres oil leaking on the gas pedal(car). How much does that cost to fix? or can I do it at home?
I agree with your first answer.

What are the causes of oil entering your cooling system? What repairs can be done to fix this problem.?

Looks like antifreeze hasn't been changed in a long time and liquid is of brown muddy color. temperture indicator reads normal. no over-heating yet. Was told can not flush out cooling system until cause of oil leak is found. How costly would these repairs be?What are the causes of oil entering your cooling system? What repairs can be done to fix this problem.?
Just because it is brown doesn't mean that it's oil in the coolant. Coolant will usually turn brown due to rust deposits if it hasn't been changed in a very long time.

Have an experienced mechanic perform these two tests: first, apply a coolant system pressure gauge on the radiator or expansion tank opening. Have the engine run and see if pressure builds and fluctuates. If it does then combustion pressure is entering the cooling system indicating a bad gasket or cracked or warped head.

Second, have the mechanic probe the radiator or expansion tank opening with an exhaust probe. A higher than normal hydrocarbon reading indicates oil in the coolant.

You can usually see streaks floating across the water if there is oil in the system. You can always flush the coolant, it won't hurt anything. It's just that it won't solve a bad gasket, cracked or warped head or cracked block. What are the causes of oil entering your cooling system? What repairs can be done to fix this problem.?
is your anti-freeze orange or green if its orange then drain it flush the system and add new antifreeze you probably have a chevy car that's normal condition cause of the orange anti-freeze.but now say it was oil and it was brow-redish color then check you trany oil is it pink or red automatic transsmission cool the oil usin the radiator coolant like a heat exchange if that's crack then you'll see oil in coolant an coolant in trany oil. hope this helps you
Oil in the coolant would be floating on top and have a very distinct petroleum smell to it.

If the coolant is just a muddy brown color, it's probably just rust. Get it flushed and put in new coolant.
the place on the radiator where the transmission lines are hooked up to probably has a hole in it and you are mixing transmission fluid and anti-freeze together.
Probably a bad head gasket is causing the oil to mix with coolant.
IT COULD BHE A BAD HEAD GASKET OR A CRACKED BLOCK.

How to fix my cars engine? The car wont start and the spark plugs are sitting in oil.?

first get new plugs also some brake clean if you have an import like a Honda other makes have oring seals for the valve covers/spark plug ports just get a new valve cover gasket and an oring kit then clean out your spark plug holes real good remove old old rings and old gasket clean the valve cover real good and dry it completely then install your orings clean the cylinder head and valve cover paying close attention not to let a bunch of debris in your engine then install the valve cover and the new plugs gapped correctly and apply antiseaze you may need new plug-wires too sometimes you can clean em if it was me I'd replace the plug-wires too then using dielectric grease on the plug-wires reinstall them fully seated then drain oil and replace oil filter install new oil filter and correct amount and viscosity of oil and you should be good.the o-rings are installed in the valve cover. How to fix my cars engine? The car wont start and the spark plugs are sitting in oil.?
Take it to a mechanic, sounds like your car has problems, because spark plugs sitting in oil will only cause the engine to run rough, not fail to start up completely. How to fix my cars engine? The car wont start and the spark plugs are sitting in oil.?
the oil around the spark plugs should be the only problem. i had a saturn that the spark plugs sat in oil and i drained the oil out of the engine, cleaned all the oil around the plugs and put new seats in
Your plugs need to be dry and clean for your car to start.
Try taking the spark plugs out of the oil bath and putting them in the engine. If you mean the plugs are oil fouled, you have bad rings and therefore no compression. Time for an engine rebuild.
It sounds like you have a car with the spark plugs going through the valve cover? If so ? Change the valve cover gasket that is why your plugs are sitting in oil, next change the plugs%26amp;wires.That might solve your problum.

  • What can I do to fix an overheating 91 mazda miata mx5 just did an oil & coolant change and it still heats up.?

the thing I have noticed is that there is steam coming from the radiator cap when closed and the dual fans won't turn on, any suggestions? What can I do to fix an overheating 91 mazda miata mx5 just did an oil %26amp; coolant change and it still heats up.?
could be the thermostat is stuck closed, and the water is boiling and causing steam.

the fan aren't turning on because of a fuse, relay or switch/sensor.

you could also have a huge air pocket in the system, which could explain why the fans aren't activating. What can I do to fix an overheating 91 mazda miata mx5 just did an oil %26amp; coolant change and it still heats up.?
i'm having the same problem. maybe you have a leak somewhere like i do. have the engine pressure tested.

Can a car be fixed if it has 4 leaks where the oil goes? Will it cost a lot to fix it?

I have a 1989 Cavalier just had someone non-mechanic) look at it to see what is wrong with it, I was told that there are 3-4 leaks where the oil keeps just going thro as fast as I put it in. Can this be fixed by a mechanic? Can a car be fixed if it has 4 leaks where the oil goes? Will it cost a lot to fix it?
It can be fixed, but that car has parts that are hard to find due to it being a Cavalier in the 1989. It might cost a lot but they would probably just replace the whole pipe unless the leak is in totally separate areas.

If i rub a small amount of warm olive oil into my heat damaged hair, will it help fix it?

And if it will be good for it, can i just leave it in there and style as normal? If i rub a small amount of warm olive oil into my heat damaged hair, will it help fix it?
Don't leave it in! Use quality products such as Joico/K-Pak reconstuctor %26amp; Silk Results to style. Also Take Biotin %26amp; Vitamin E.If i rub a small amount of warm olive oil into my heat damaged hair, will it help fix it?
Olive oil is really good for hair...it leaves it nice, soft and shiny. It might not fix it completely, but it will leave it feeling better.

You can't leave it in there then style as normal though. You can leave it in for a while (10-30 minutes) then rinse it off. You could also have a shower at night, apply olive oil, pop a shower cap on then go to sleep. It's abit uncomfy, but when you rinse it off in the morning your hair will feel sooo nice.
    yes it will help

also try to - apply mayonnaise on your hair for two hours twice a week

it will make ur hair super healthy and shinny
You must add several cloves of crushed garlic to the oil.
Gotta love the natural oils :)

You have to rinse it out before you style it, though.
dot he mayo treatment, it worked for me =D

Lawn mower leaks gas on top of motor. The oil filter is soaked with gas. How can I fix this problem.?

I have a craftsman walk behind lawn mower. There is gas on top of the engine and the oil filter is soaked with gas. I need some suggestions on how to fix this problem. ThanksLawn mower leaks gas on top of motor. The oil filter is soaked with gas. How can I fix this problem.?
try putting a cork or rubber gasket in the gas tank cap or if the tank is leaking it's self you can use redkote gas tank liner sealer.Lawn mower leaks gas on top of motor. The oil filter is soaked with gas. How can I fix this problem.?
Are you sure it's the ';oil'; filter thats gas saturated or the air filter?

If it is the air filter, sounds like the float for the needle valve is sticking allowing the carburator to overflow and spill gas into the air filter. The carb must be dissasembled, throughly cleaned and reassembled, and a new air filter installed. All the parts needed to work on Craftsman equipment can be found at Sears.com

By clicking on the parts tab, typing in your model # it will show the diagram and parts list for your machine.
the gasket must be out of it find a cork board from the hardware store or some other kind of gasket material

We have a rototiller engine mounted to a go cart. It is spewing oil, the pvc valve is bad, how can we fix it?

We washed it out with gas and it seems clean, but once the engine is under preasure the oil leaks out.We have a rototiller engine mounted to a go cart. It is spewing oil, the pvc valve is bad, how can we fix it?
I never heard of a small engine with a PVC valve, what kind of engine is it? Are you sure it's not blowing oil out of the oil breather hose? If it is, either it is overfilled with oil or the piston rings are worn out or cracked. We have a rototiller engine mounted to a go cart. It is spewing oil, the pvc valve is bad, how can we fix it?
Good chance that you have a gasket leaking. You might be better off getting a new engine. (I should say, used engine from a mower shop.)
Get the engine model and serial number off the engine, it is usually stamped on the metal engine shroud. Go to ';outdoordistributors.com'; and look up your engine model. You can than order the part you need. Also, make sure that you are not overfilling the engine with oil. I have a mower that has the wrong dipstick and it is easy to put too much oil in it. Assuming it is about a 5hp engine, it should only take about 3/4 of a quart. It could also be that there is so much blowby that you are pressurizing the crankcase. In that case new a new piston and rings might help it.

  • What should i use (hairspray?) to fix oil pastels?

i have recently begun working with oil pastels and blending them with turpenoid (a turpentine substitute). does anyone know what i should use to fix them in place so that they don't smudge?

is there a certain spray that i can buy at an art store? or is there a certain kind/brand of hairspray that works best? or maybe something else altogether...

thanks! What should i use (hairspray?) to fix oil pastels?
go to your local craft store: Joanns, Pat catans, michaels, etc and look for oil pastel fixitive, i have used this http://www.dickblick.com/zz217/13/ , along with many others before... just make sure that it is NOT workable fixtive, that will still allow smearing but reduce it while you are not working on it/to get too muddy of colors. What should i use (hairspray?) to fix oil pastels?
For soft pastel (chalk) they sell a fixitive product, I don't believe there is anything for oil pastels other than natural drying process.
Go to the websites for either Jerry's Artarama or Dick Blick. Type in ';fixatives'; in their search box. There are fixatives for pastels that will not change the color of pastels. Fixatives for pastels are very tricky because they WILL change the hue of your colors. But several art medium manufacturers make sprays that will work.
Hiyas, Never use hairspray. It can yellow over time. There is a special fixatif for oil pastel paintings. Its by Sennelier and is called Fixatif Pastels A L'Huile , it says right on it for oil pastels. Also i dont know what other bottles or cans it comes in but the one i have here is in a plastic spray bottle not a hairspray style can.

My car is dripping oil: How much does it cost to fix?

It depends on where the oil is leaking from. If the oil is leaking from the filter, then just changing the oil (and filter) would fix that problem. If the drain plug is not tightened then the fix is the same (oil change). If the problem is the oil pan, then you would need a new gasket (still cheap).

Try to find the source of the leak. You can power wash your engine compartment (plastic cover all your electric connection and use a power washer). Then you would be better able to see where the oil is leaking from.

Good Luck.My car is dripping oil: How much does it cost to fix?
It depends on where the leaking is coming from. If it's coming from the drain plug or oil filter, a simple tightening (which you can do it yourself) will do the trick. If it's coming from the head cover, a simple examination of the head cover gasket for cracks(s) and replacing it with a new one will do the trick. If it has no crack, a little tightening and putting it in proper place will solve the problem too. This operation can also be easily done by you. However, if the leak is caused by a crack in the oil pan gasket or cracked gasket from any attached part on the engine block, then a professional help may be in order. My car is dripping oil: How much does it cost to fix?
What kind of car? Most engines tend to leak at the following areas, Valve covers (85% of the time this is where the leaks start), front main seal, Rear main seal, Oil filter, oil drain plug, oil pan Gasket, head gaskests, timing covers, PCV gromits, Dip stick tube gaskets. If this leak started shortly after the oil was changed take it back to the shop who change it and have them double check everything. Sometimes they will not get the oil cleaned up on the frame and you have drips for about 2 days.
all oil leaks cost exactly the same amount to fix, whether it be tightening the oil filter or replacing the engine. the amount, however, is a secret.
You haven't said where the keak is coming from. i.e. oil filter, engine, or oil sump, if it's the oil sump it is likely it will just need a new gasket or sump tightening. the same would apply to the oil filter, if it's the engine, it could be something simple as tightening a few bolts or a crankshaft seal needs replacing. First, define where the leak is and go from there. good luck.
It all depends on where the leak is located. It could cost as little as 30.00 or as much as 1500.00 or higher. High end cars cost more to fix than regular beaters.
It all depends on the type of vehicle you have, the parts that you may need, the mechanic you may choose and of course, it is worse repairing if it is too bad of a spill?

How do i fix a lawn mower that i forgot to put oil in.?

ok i didn't know that lawn mowers took oil. now i can't get the thing to start, i found the oil thing and put oil in it. so what do i do with it now? how do i fix it?How do i fix a lawn mower that i forgot to put oil in.?
Turn it upside sown and try to turn the blade. If it will turn, the motor has not seized. Did it make a bad noise before it stopped working? If it did, you likely threw the rod and it will not work. Some mowers will shut down by themselves if they are low on oil before any damage is done. Once somebody gave me a mower that she said would not work. I took it home and took out the spark plug to check it. Oil began to run out of the hole. The entire engine was full of oil. That is why it would not run. Make sure that you have the oil to the correct level. Not too much, not too little.

You may be able to fix it.

I had a truck once. The oil plug fell out and I drove it without oil. The engine seized. I filled the case with ';marvel Mystery oil'; I let it set for a day, then began to turn the motor with a gigantic wrench. It broke free. I gave it a few more rotations and charged the battery. After that it started right up. I changed the oil and it has been running well ever since. How do i fix a lawn mower that i forgot to put oil in.?
Remove the spark plug %26amp; put some oil the cylinder..crank it quite a few times..Put the plug back in %26amp; try to start it..You may have to take the plug out %26amp; clean it. Put a couple of tablespoons of gas in the cylinder, replace the spark plug %26amp; it may start. If the cylinder is stuck, %26amp; you can't crank it..Put some 20-40 in the cylinder..stand it on the side so the cylinder is up..let it sit for a day or two, %26amp; then try to crank it over using the blade (spark Plug removed of course)
I do not think it is shot.

If nothing broke and it only seized up like the other poster's truck it only needs to be freed if it can be.

You probably took a couple of years off the lifespan with wear. That is not a big deal.

It probably glazed the cyclinders and it may not run as well at first but the rings will wear back in.

But if you didn't know you needed oil I have no doubt you need somebody more handy to get it going again.
As everybody else has said, it is now a dead mower. You either have to get a new engine or a new mower. When you replace it though, consider buying an electric one if it's suitable for the area you're cutting. They are usually alot less hassle to look after.
The engine will need to be re-built or replaced. Depending on how expensive and how new your mower is you might be better off replacing the whole mower. Look in the phone book for ';Small Engine Repair'; if you want to have it repaired.

    Bert
As others have said, you may be able to save it.

    BUT..

The damage has been done already, and I wouldn't count this as a dependable mower anymore IF you get it freed. I suggest getting a new one if the price is negligible.
Tie a rope to it and use it as an anchor the next time you go fishing on your boat.

Don't forget to check the oil in the boat motor! sorry . . . . I couldn't resist it.
You can't fix it. The thing is shot. You'll have to buy another one.
Like the others said, it's done. You're going to need a new lawnmower, or replace the engine on that one.
You've blown it mate, the lawnmowers gone forever.

    You shouldn't have forgotten.

Can you fix an engine if it ran about a mile without any oil?

I recently got in a car accident and I gouged a hole in the oil filter and all the oil leaked out but the next day my mother ran a few chores and it started dying and eventually I changed the oil and oil filter but there is this clicking noise that wont stop. Before the wreck I changed the oil and I used that Lucas oil thickener ,Do you think that saved the engine a little? Can you fix an engine if it ran about a mile without any oil?
I knocked a hole in my oil pan and drove 20 miles. I just replaced the pan and was fine. You must determine if the sound is coming from the top or bottom. Top means valves or lifters, Bottom most likely crank bearings (worst case ).

I would suggest getting a breakdown of your engine, and trying to determine from there, what damage was done. You didn't tell us what type of car or engine.

Good LuckCan you fix an engine if it ran about a mile without any oil?
I thought that it might be fixable... until you mentioned the clicking. I don't know if your additive saved your engine, but you should have the clicking examined while the problem is small. If a part breaks completely inside, the engine will be complete garbage.
The thicker the oil, the quiter it should get.... Might have spun a bearing or two, But of course it could just be lifter tapping.
If that word ';eventually'; means only one mile of driving without oil, there's hope. If the ';clicking'; is coming from the top of the engine and is not a heavy sound, it's worth a try to put some Bardahl in with the oil and run it a few miles. It could be a stuck valve lifter and the Bardahl might free it up.
It may have helped it some as that stuff will stick pretty good to engine parts. That clicking you're hearing may be your valves. Will it stop even with a little bit more Lucas in there? It sounds like there's been some damage, and if the noise is coming from the top of the engine, your valves may have seen a little too much metal to metal contact. Get it checked out, but be prepared for the worst. Sorry man.
    Miami;

sounds like a valve is stuck, and the rocker is ';tapping'; the push-rod. But, in worst case senario, this ';clicking';, could be from a spun bearing. In either case, if your not familiar to the internals of an engine, definitely take it to a shop you trust, as this type of engine repair can be rather expensive.
    Good Question!

  • The cold water pipe going into my oil burner is warm. can anyone explain why and how i can fix it?

fyi, the hot water pipe and my hot water is hot. the cold water is warm. The cold water pipe going into my oil burner is warm. can anyone explain why and how i can fix it?
';cold'; in this case just means ';not heated';. That ';cold'; water is coming in from outside and if it has been hot lately the water coming into your house from outside is going to be warm. The cold water pipe going into my oil burner is warm. can anyone explain why and how i can fix it?
You don't say where that pipe comes from, or goes from the time it leaves the ground until it arrives at the HWH. Perhaps it goes through an south-facing outside wall, and is not well insulated so that it picks up heat from the exterior wall. Or does it come from the attic where it can again be warmed by radiant heat?
I once had a weird situation where a single-control faucet allowed cross-flow between the hot and cold water supplies.

Now that wouldn't have been too much of a problem except that the plumbing near the cold water input to the water heater was teed to allow a feed to some outdoor sprinklers. When the sprinklers were running one day, I happened to run some cold water in the sink in the garage, and noticed it was warm. Further investigation showed that the water inlet to the water heater was also warm - definitely not proper operation!

Initially, I fixed it by putting an anti-backflow valve on the input to the water heater. Then one day I happened to be working on that kitchen faucet where I had disconnected one of the supply tubes, and lo and behold, water came backwards out of the supply when I disconnected it. Close examination of the single-control faucet internals revealed a worn out seal between the hot and cold sides, which allowed cross-flow when the faucet was turned off.
    call a plumber
    torch
it sounds like you have a problem

it sounds like the cold water pipe, is sucking in warm water

you need a anti suction valve installed

or it just the cold is getting heated from the tank

if you run the cold, does it run cold?

if it does, dont worry about it
If you are talking about your residential water heater you should make this test:

Run the hot water into a sink or somewhere for about five minutes. If the pipe becomes real cold then that means the heat of the boiler conducts heat onto the cold water inlet during a period of prolonged non use. That is normal.

But if it is warm most of the time it probably means your dip tube has fallen off the cold water inlet and the hot water at the top of the tank is mixing with the cold water at the inlet and heating the water in the cold water inlet pipe.

    . Savvy?

You will probably need a plumber to install a new dip tube unless you are a real handy guy.

How bad is oil on a spark plug? what would i do to fix it?

I have a 1975 chevy c10 and i wanna rebuild the engine is it an okay investment? How bad is oil on a spark plug? what would i do to fix it?
Great investment if the body and trans/rear is sound.

Is it a straight-six or an eight?

Cheaper to fix and maintain, there is nothing wrong with sixes, contrary to what most tough-guys will say. A c-10 can do it's job well, without a giant, nitro v8.

Anyway, you will probably find it much quicker and cheaper to replace the motor. Especially if it is 2wd.

There are a million chevy motors floating around, especially if you want to upgrade to a v8.

Straight-sixes are not as common, in good used condition. But you could put a v-6 from the 80's-90's in there.

Oh yeah, oil in plug means rebuild(rings shot), or maybe just bad valve seats. It really depends on when the oil is there, and how long it smokes for, after you start it up.How bad is oil on a spark plug? what would i do to fix it?
before taking it apart, make sure you need to. on

a cylinder which is not firing, the plug will look wet.

it could be an ignition fault, a valve not operating.

if it has bad rings, you should be seeing blue smoke, increasing when you're acclerating, and a new spark plug will build up deposits quickly, it will only become oily, after it stops firing
..Thats hard to answer, if its a ';Good investment....With Gas prices high, and people and dealers trying to ';Dump';..gas guzzlers, you would have a very hard time if you wanted to sell, but as Hobby, or reliable vehicle...you have a truck that ';Runs';...

    That didn't work.

Time for the people, through their elected representatives, to force the issue.
There's plenty of oil, that's not the problem. There are two main factors influencing unacceptably high gas prices:

    1) Lack of refining capacity. The US needs to build more refineries to increase the ready supply of finished petroleum products.

    2) Under-exploitation of domestic resources. There is a large amount of oil and other fossil fuels that remains untapped. We don't want to use up our reserves, but all our oil should be on line and ready to flow. This way, if OPEC and Russia get stingy with oil (like they have been for ten years), we can turn on our own taps to flood the market and send oil prices into the basement. The threat of creating a glut should be enough to keep foreign oil producers in line, but this threat is not credible when the idiots in congress bind our hands and keep us from having a rational energy policy.

As to why congress isn't fixing it? The kindest explanation is that the leaders of congress are in fact, stupid. Other explanations involve the blackest kind of disloyalty and venality.
Electric Cars are in the works. The biggest problem is the batteries. They think they have solved the problem and in a couple of years electrics will become a reality.
Well, George W Bush is not smart enough to realize that there is an oil crisis he's to busy spending billions of dollars on the war. we could use wind and solar power. also we could run our cars on water, or electricity or something. even though electric cars wont have as much horsepower we could find a way. hopefully Barack Obama will get us into the right lane. lol.
    reduce consumption gradually

very high tax on private transportation

    to find alternative energy.

solar, wind, thermal, nuclear and many more.

instead of paying in Gold for black gold - invest on alternative energy.
we get the stinking whining green loving liberal commies to let us drill for our own oil.
fix it by regulating the trading going on at the NY Mercantile exchange. The speculators are rampant, wait until they do this with water next.
Start a war with South america and take all their reserves. Nuke the middle east and then claim all that too
I'm surprised, no one has said, well technically we aren't in a recession yet because we haven't had two quaters of negative GDP.

Alright people, you're finally startin to get it. I'm proud of ya.
Why? Well its because the oil companies load our leaders pockets full of money to keep them from doing anything about it. Why is none of the presidential candidates talking about the gas prices??? Because there is sooooo much money in oil. We are smart enough as humans to find another way no doubt but until someone turns down the oil typhoons then we are all doomed to this greed and power.

Why can't we tap into our oil in the US for even one year? That would drop prices. We have plenty of oil in the ground here. We need an American to step up %26amp; be trueful for the people because the people is America!

What are some good ways to fix pork chops other than frying them in oil?

We grill pork chops if they're thick cut. Add some BBQ sauce and they're tasty!

If you have thinner chops, with or without bone, I bake them a large dish using a can of cream of mushroom soup and a can of cream of chicken soup - mixed with water or milk. Then I add veggies and rice and cook until the rice is soft. The veggies can be any type and mixture. My hubby likes broccoli but i tend to add that and much more. If you like, after making your plate, add cheese to the rice/veggie mixture for a different taste. What are some good ways to fix pork chops other than frying them in oil?
This is how I have done them in the past-put them in a baking dish and cover them with cream of mushroom soup and add more mushrooms and celery and bake at 350 for 15 minutes or until cooked through. They're great with some mashed potatoes because the soup works as a kind of gravy...What are some good ways to fix pork chops other than frying them in oil?
brown them in a skillet and cover with cream of mushroom soup and water, add cubed or sliced potatoes and bake in baking dish covered with foil, they will be really tender, sometimes i add brocolli to the dish for our green veggie
I pan grill them a little then place them in a covered baking dish and smother them with bar-b-q sauce and bake for about 45min. Mmmm, fall apart, sticky, saucy, melt in your mouth gooooood.
Brown then slow cook for several hours with root veg, oxo's, worcestershire sauce.

    Brown and the steam.

Both methods make the pork really tender!
Make up some cornbread dressing and brown them and put them on top of the dressing and bake in oven. Love this.
Put them in a slow cooker and throw in a can of mushroom soup or any cream soup you like. Cook for 8 hours on slow or 4 hours on high. Yum!
Shake %26amp; Bake or any good breading mix, then bake on a grooved surface like a broiler pan so the grease drains away.
    Bake it !

    Clean it

    add spices

    dip in egg or milk

    Add bread crumbs

    put in the oven

i like to pour mushroom sauce on it after it done.

    It is so Good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You can put them in slow cooker

    Please look at link below.

    Have a good day
you could just marinate them slightly in canola oil, and then bake them... like my mom does.... :)
bake them, grill them or put them in crock pot

How do I fix my cast iron skillet? I put it in the oven with too much oil and it is gunky.?

I wanted to season my skillet, but I put too much oil in it. I left it in the oven and the oil turned into this gummy residue that will not come off, no matter how much I scrub. Does anyone know how to fix this? How do I fix my cast iron skillet? I put it in the oven with too much oil and it is gunky.?
you need to get a clean fresh start on that one. sos pad and some 409 scrub well rince well once you get it clean put it on top of stove get just hot enough to dry it completely then use a paper towel and put on a lite coat of oil to keep it from rusting... you shold season it in lares of oil.bakeing biscuts and corn bread or soda bread in it will season it really well, greese generiouslu just before bakeing youre bread in it the more bread you bake in it the better it will get wipe out crums instead of washing.also if you like gumbo you can make youre roux half flour half oil and bake it it is easyer than the stove top methiod and a great way to season the skillit happy cooking p.s. if you dont get it clean that way you may have to burn the stuff out by building a camp fire outside place skillit upside down in fire. How do I fix my cast iron skillet? I put it in the oven with too much oil and it is gunky.?
I did the same thing and I sprayed mine with oven cleaner...stuck it in a black trash bag and put it in the sun. Next day spray it off with the garden hose and a high pressure nozzel. No scrubbing and you can start over by heating skillet on stove and then wiping with oil.
Try boiling the gunk out with water and a little dishsoap. As the gunk begins to soften, scrape out with a skillet.

You may have to change the water/soap multiple times.

    Then rinse and reseason

If this doesn't work, look for a sandblaster in your area and see if they can sandblast the pan clean.

    Good luck
Chicagirl51 is on the right track. I did the same thing the first time I tried seasoning a pan 20 years ago. I added regular ammonia to the pan, about 1/4 cup, put it in a plastic bag in the sun, then scrubbed it the next day with an SOS pad and re-seasoned it. Another helpful hint...Use vegetable oil, not lard, bacon grease, or any other animal fat to season it.
Put it in the BBQ grill, tune it up on high and leave until all the gunk burns off. Then wash your skillet and season it.

    Sorta like a self-cleaning oven ;-)
Put some mineral oil in the pan and let it sit for several days before wiping it out with dry paper towels. It will be okay, those pans last forever. I bought one several months ago with ribs molded right in the bottom and when I cook fish in it I get those nice grill marks.
I would think that the skillet is cast iron. If it is, try putting in the oven with a layer of salt (1/8 in) turn on the oven to 500oF for a half hour, through out the salt, let it cool then wash in soap and water then put oil in the pan return it to the oven at 200oF for about an hour

Or you could try cleaning it by putting it on the top of the stove (burner) almost full of water, put a drop or liquid dish detergent in the water then bring to a boil let it cool then it should wash the gunk out.

    have fun.
Put a few drops of Dawn dishwashing liquid in it, add water, put it on the stove, bring the water to a simmer and let it simmer for a few minutes. Dump it out, and if needed do it again. Depending on how much gunk is there, you may have to do this several times, then you should be able to hand wash it.

After it is cleaned, rinse well in HOT water, dry it, place it back on the burner to dry thoroughly, then re-season with light coatings of oil.

Is there a way to fix an engine for a car that has been damaged by oil sludge?

I have been told by the maintenance shop I need a new engine help.Is there a way to fix an engine for a car that has been damaged by oil sludge?
You need a new engine. You'll pour huge amounts of money into the old one trying to fix, and you'll still have an old, damaged motor. All the cleaning attempts will do is to break loose more chunks of sludge and damage it more.

I'm not sure what these clowns think cleaning the engine would do to fix the damage. Is there a way to fix an engine for a car that has been damaged by oil sludge?
get some engine flush and dump it into the oil, start your car, let it idle for about 5 minutes, shut it down, drop the oil pan and clean the oil pan out and the pick-up screen on the oil pump, put the pick-up tube back on the oil pump, put the oil pan back on with a new gasket, change the filter and add new oil.
You only have 2 options. 1. have the engine rebuilt, the machine shop will ';steam clean'; the block itself. 2. buy a new engine. It comes down to this...the cost of having it rebuilt, parts and labor, vs. the cost of the new motor and labor!
Take the motor to a machine shop and get it clean for like $35 bucks, but u have to tear the motor down to a bear block and take the heads to the shop to.
Yes this may sound a little extreme but it will work. Drain half the oil put in 2quarts of Diesel fuel and let it run a few minutes then turn it off an change the oil and filter. That should do the trick.
It depends on just what is damaged and how bad. A complete rebuild might solve the problem but it could well cost you as much as a new engine depending on what's ruined.

  • I have motor oil leaking into my overflow tank. What could the problem be? How can I fix it?

It was already determined that it is oil and not old antifreeze. The mechanic said it was the head gasket. He said if it is cracked, it needs to be replaced. Wouldn't it be cracked anyway if there is oil going into the expansion tank?I have motor oil leaking into my overflow tank. What could the problem be? How can I fix it?
Not necessairily-could just be seeping past a burned out piece of the gasket. The head itself will need to be checked by a machine shop-they use a UV dye-for cracks and warpage.

Your mechanic was referencing the head gasket for definite replacement and the head for removal/inspection/possible replacement. Good time to give the cooling system an overhaul-check water pump, flush radiator, new thermostat, new coolant, new radiator cap, etc.

Makes sense to check/adjust the valvetrain, while the head's being r%26amp;r'ed. Basic tuneup, too.

Head gaskets aren't too hard, but sometimes you find you've opened a can of worms, know what I'm saying?I have motor oil leaking into my overflow tank. What could the problem be? How can I fix it?
Your mechanic is correct. You have what is known in the industry as a blown head gasket. It could be a cracked head too. Hope it isn't. Either way you have an expensive repair bill coming.

If I were you I would first decide how much the car is worth. If the cost to repair the car is more than its worth you might be better off getting another vehicle.

You never mention what year or brand of car you own so I can't tell you if it is something you might be able to fix. You could try and find a Tech school in your area to see if they would fix it for you. However they take there time on things as it is a learning experience for the students.

I wouldn't keep driving this car either as if you get to much oil in the water you could blow the engine. I wish you well with your problem...
Head Gasket needs to be replaced
Yes! you have a major problem. Every thing needs drained%26amp; fixed at once or all will be ruined.
blown gasket. expensive to fix, but engine will seize if you don't.
I would take the advice from cape nut, I would have told you basically the same thing
It's a virtual certainty that the oil in your header tank is there because of a failed cylinder head gasket. You need to have a fair amount of experience to fit a replacement but, with the right tools , a Haynes repair manual would probably help you to do it. However it could mean that where the gasket is leaking it will have damaged the mating faces of the cylinder block and cylinder head which will necessitate having one or both skimmed. Generally speaking a new gasket will not compensate for damaged faces of these 2 major components. You should either get the repair done ASAP or do it yourself. Don't continue to run the car until this is done. It may be, too, that water is finding its way into the sump which tends to emulsify the oil and this doesn't enhance its lubrication properties. Small point...I guess the mechanic used the word ';might'; because he didn't want to take on the repair. In my opinion water in the oil needs fixing urgently. Good luck.
    HEAD GASKET...............................

Some engines just have a history of blowing head gaskets.

Some head gasket failures can be blamed on a hard-to-seal cylinder head.

Overheating is also a very common cause of head gasket failures. If the engine gets too hot, the cylinder head can swell to the point where it crushes the head gasket (usually between the cylinders because this is the thinnest point). The extruded material and/or cracked combustion armor then provides a leak path for coolant and/or combustion gases.

Another common cause of head gasket failure is excessive pressure in the combustion chamber. This can be the result of detonation and/or pre-ignition.
The only way you can fix it, would be to replace the head gasket.

Sometimes that costs more than just getting a new engine or another car, unless you know some good mechanic that you are friends with.

Since 'evil'; insurance companies making 'big profits' will Pres. fix oil companies?

I believe a government gas price would be better. Sad that Al Gore sold the Elks Hill Naval Strategic Oil Reserve and at a time when oil was at historical lows ($10 a barrel).Since 'evil'; insurance companies making 'big profits' will Pres. fix oil companies?
What big profits by insurance companies ?

The top 15 insurance companies averaged a 5.2% profit last year.

Health insurance companies made 13 billion in profits last year.

Thats 0.59% of health care spending in 2008.

If those profits are the big problem, then wouldn't just 13 billion from the government, solve all the problems ?Since 'evil'; insurance companies making 'big profits' will Pres. fix oil companies?
We don't need to fix oil companies.

They will be bankrupt in a couple of decades.

In a few years, when we realize that we have hit peak oil nationally (we already hit peak oil in U.S. in 1971), production will stop growing and prices will begin to skyrocket.

Soon enough, very few will be able to afford oil and the profits that Big Oil now enjoy will shrivel up.
It would be easy. Just stop selling the 40% of the oil that comes down the Alaskan pipeline to Japan as we do now. I know. There go our relations with Japan. So what? If you can't make the correlation between Insurance profits and oil company profits. You really ought to just go take a nap.
These companies are not evil. I just think the majority were greedy. Just like the banking industry when McCain and Phil Graham started deregulation.

    These commodities need regulation.
What do insurance company profits have to do with the Pres. fixing oil companies???
That's all ready in the making, cap and trade trade us away to the mid eastern nations, we will never be able to use our USA resources, this is another thing making Americans mad as hell!
What do you think the cap-and-trade bill is all about?

My 60 hp Mercury 4-stroke has an oil leak-where is it coming from and what will it take to fix it?

I removed the cowling and the side plates that cover the foot, and where the powerhead is attached to the foot, there is oil building up under the bottom of the powerhead- I could see no leak where it is draining down from the powerhead, only a buildup of oil around the bottom of the powerhead. First 4-stroke and I'm not sure what I'm dealing with here. Any and all help will be appreaciated. Thanks! My 60 hp Mercury 4-stroke has an oil leak-where is it coming from and what will it take to fix it?
Its really possible that oil is residue from sloppy oil changes. Those mid-sized mercs are a ***** to keep clean when removing the filter, and ive done thousands! The only other place oil can come from is the cam cover(not likely) or the base gasket( more likely). Do a super clean on the engine, keep a eye on the oil level, run the boat, pull the lower cowls off and see what you can see. I presume your motor has a guardian alarm, or smartcraft, listen for the alarm! Good luck.My 60 hp Mercury 4-stroke has an oil leak-where is it coming from and what will it take to fix it?
My guess is that it would be coming for a knock loose oil line same thig happened to my mercury 90 from all the bouncin on the water.

Oil pressure light is comming on how do I fix it?

I have a 98 pont. sufire with the oil pressure light comes on. whats the problem with the car?Oil pressure light is comming on how do I fix it?
change the oil, add oil , or fix the sending unit or just ignore it chances are atthat age the cars electric system is probably sending false signalsOil pressure light is comming on how do I fix it?
first......be sure there is oil in the crankcase......is it making any noise?.......remove the oil pressure sensor....install a hose %26amp; pressure gauge.....run the engine %26amp; read the gauge....need at least 10 lbs. pressure....if it has pressure...replace the sender.....if not.....change the oil %26amp; filter....if still not...check distributer oil pump drive ....if that,s ok......remove the oil pan %26amp; inspect the oil pump.....if your not equiped to do this......have it towed to your mechanic for inspection......good luck!
It likes to play tricks on you, but don't be fooled! Ignore its cries of wolf, don't validate its falsified pain! That sort of alienation will drive it to multiple excruciating internal conflicts, with much weeping and gnashing of teeth. And thus will it be subject to subordination once more!
First thing to do is check to see if you have oil in it.
Provided you actually don't have low oil pressure there is a sensor / switch for the light.
it means either you have a bad sending unit or the oil pressure is too low and damage to the engine will eventually occur. you need to hook up a manual oil pressure gauge to the engine and see what the oil pressure is. if it's low (below 10 or so psi, then you have worn out bearings, oil pump or both.
Dustin gave the same answer I would

Why dosen't the government try to fix this problems like the water shotage the oil shortage and so on?

Isn't that y he is government to help us if not wat kind of government is that?People r dying because we r not taking action.Who agrees? Why dosen't the government try to fix this problems like the water shotage the oil shortage and so on?
How much do you really want the government up your butt? Americans are not dying because of these things.

Some areas of the world are just not fit for human habitation, but people are there, nonetheless. Do you want some government to just move them out en masse?

As for oil, if individual people are not willing the change their habits (outrageous energy consumption), what do you propose the government(s) do?

Many individuals refuse to do anything for themselves, depending on the government to cure each and every little problem.

I would rather take care of myself responsibly, and have less government intervention than more! Why dosen't the government try to fix this problems like the water shotage the oil shortage and so on?
We've planned and proposed new oil exploration and drilling for years and years now.

Every time a plan gets rolling, environmentalists sue or get liberal Congressmen to block it and nothing gets done.

The fact that oil is expensive is 100% due to our unwillingness to do what it takes to provide for our own needs.

Water shortages are a different matter. The government can't make it rain and fill up your local reservoir. Sorry.
You are exactly right but what would you expect in North America where both the President and the Prime Minister are oil men...in the 70s, Canada's prime minister, Pierre Trudeau, tried to nationalize the oil industry with the justification that if the oil industry was not under government control they would eventually destroy us...how prophetic...what happened?...a series of right wing governments took control and sold it back to private enterprise; hence, an oil producing nation like Canada has some of the highest fuel prices...1.20$ a litre...rough calculation 6$ per gallon...the government in turn profits in Canada because there is a sales tax on fuel..the shortage?..not the supply of oil but the lack of refineries which orchestrates a false supply and demand...who created this?..the private oil companies...no, it is not in governments best interest to control oil prices and one last thing, while most are worrying how to power their car, just wait because time is coming where food will be the crisis..and what are we doing, putting food in our gas tanks..so warmly accepted by the cretins in the governments...food is for people not for cars...so, will things get better...not a chance so suck up and watch the wallet empty as America drives SUV's to the grocery store..me?..I get 50 miles to the gallon in a 1999 VW...so I lose but very little...
The govt is controlled by the big corporations and special interests. It does its best to avoid telling Americans the truth. Most of our problems are caused by overpopulation due to uncontrolled immigration, both legal and illegal. Their would be no water shortage and the oil shortage would be much less of a problem without the massive immigration into the country over the last 40 years.

Also, the environmentalists have forbidden oil companies from drilling in Alaska and off most of the USA coastline. Overpopulation is the biggest threat to life on earth.

The U.S. population grew from 152 million in 1950 to 270 million in 2002, a 78% increase. We will have doubled in 57 years.

Overpopulation Too Many People - Too Few Solutions? by Frosty Wooldridge http://www.frostywooldridge.com/overpop/鈥?/a>
Honey when we look at the government we see all kinds of things that need to be fixed. In reality when you are walking in their shoes it isn't so easy. There is so much red tape to everything and of course no two people agree on how to fix a problem.
honestly there isnt a oil shortage the government just refuses to open up drill sites in other areas and stop some of this stress on americans and they dont consider the water shortage to be important bc it doesnt directly affect them even though its a major issue for many many people.
Because they are too busy fighting a war on nothing, and they also are busy debating race issues over the upcoming election to pay attention to the real problems.

What should i use (hairspray?) to fix oil pastels?

i have recently begun working with oil pastels and blending them with turpenoid (a turpentine substitute). does anyone know what i should use to fix them in place so that they don't smudge?

is there a certain spray that i can buy at an art store? or is there a certain kind/brand of hairspray that works best? or maybe something else altogether...

thanks! What should i use (hairspray?) to fix oil pastels?
With my limited skill in that area, I have found that letting your work cure in a horizontal position, away from dust, humidity and drastic temperature changes, works fine. I would let the work fully cure before attempting any kind of sealant. What should i use (hairspray?) to fix oil pastels?
NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Use workable fixative. Not expensive. Don't spray too close or it will darken the drawing. Do a couple of coats from maybe two feet away.
    http://www.dickblick.com/zz217/13/

go here and check out the other types of products they have. similar products can be found at a local art supply store.
Any good art store will sell fixative, which is specifically made for this purpose. Look for one which is labeled ';archival'; and ';non-yellowing.'; Hopefully, the staff will be able to answer your questions about the product. Don't use hairspray if you want your artwork to last.

    Good luck with your artwork!
dont use hairspray!!!!!!!!!! hair spray is best for powdery medium,.....there must be something at an art store but don not use hairpray...buy a fixative

  • Why does my car oil leak only when the car is left on and how can I fix this problem?

I just bought a 1996 Nissan 200sx and I believe the previous owner might have put too much oil in it. I have not driven it much yet, maybe about 50 miles since I bought it, but when I turned the car on to listen to the radio and check the lights, I noticed the car started leaking a little bit of oil. Could this do some serious damage to my car? What are the possible causes for this oil leak that only happens when the car is left on? What are some potential solutions that I should try? Thank you all so much for your help! Why does my car oil leak only when the car is left on and how can I fix this problem?
It just means the vehicle only leaks when it's running. Your mechanic should be able to find it and replace whatever seal is bad. The costs would depend on where the leak is, which is impossible to guess from your description.

Also, check the oil, if it is overfilled this could be part of the problem, again, have your mechanic drain some out and check it for leaks afterward. Why does my car oil leak only when the car is left on and how can I fix this problem?
Yes, it could do alot of damage if you don't keep the oil full. Take it to a shop for inspection as there are too many possible causes to guess at.
It leaks when its running, because hot oil is thinner than it is when it is cold. Just keep the oil full, and you should have any problems that would be caused if it ran low in oil.
the first thing i would check would be a leaking oil pressure sending unit... then look at camshaft and crankshaft seals..

71 Plymouth Fury with 318 has low oil pressure. What is a decent temporary fix?

After 1/2 hour of driving or so, when the motor is fully warmed up, the oil light flickers off and on at idle. There is a tapping sound when this happens.

Putting the car in neutral gets rid of the problem, and the light does not come on during driving.

The motor does not smoke, but it is original so I'm sure the bearings are worn or something to that extent.

Would a heavier weight of a high mileage oil help this problem? Or is there an additive I can put in like Lucas?71 Plymouth Fury with 318 has low oil pressure. What is a decent temporary fix?
a thicker oil will help a little , but it sounds like it's rebuild time , the 318 was a real good engine , but they dont last forever sorry.71 Plymouth Fury with 318 has low oil pressure. What is a decent temporary fix?
probably not but could be faulty oil sensor , but more than likely needs oil pump ,however, it isn't that hard on those cars. while it's down you might as well replace lifters. or simply just change the oil and filter may also be the problem and cheapest and easiest.sounds like your oil is old and breaking down when warm.tapping is lifters.

try cleaning the pick up sump out for the oil pump and see if that helps it,when they get stopped up they,ll do this once they get warmed up,you can also replace the oil pump while your at it and that may fix it,or you may need to do a lower end rebuild on it there no real quick fix for it though, good luck.71 Plymouth Fury with 318 has low oil pressure. What is a decent temporary fix?
That's the sure sign the engine is worn. The bearing clearance is big now,and the oil pump bypass spring is soft, lowering oil pressure. The pump gears are probably worn out, too.

Additives might help, as will heavier oil, but in a few hundred miles, this will start again. I guess drive it until it dies, and start shopping for a new engine. The 318 is nearly bullet proof, but these bullets are being fired from the inside!
Well, what typically happens to most mopar engines from that era is, the cam timing gear is aluminum, and the teeth are coated with nylon. After many years of faithful service the nylon begins to break off, and fall into the oil pan. They then migrate to the pumps pickup screen, slowly restricting the flow. Without good oil flow, bearings begin to starve for lubrication, accelerating wear.

Anyway, its time to pull the pan and look. At the VERY minimum, rod bearings, oil pump and timing chain set will buy you some time, but a full rebuild is in your future.

    BTW bitchin car, good luck~Dan
If you follow billo's advice, you might as well put some new bearings in as most of that job is done just getting to the pump.

Replace with ';ones'; or ';twos'; over size and micrometer the rod journals. If they are round the mains will be OK for the most part.

Chrysler parts for the 318 are really cheap.
First check how much oil you have, this can happen when the level is low. Second check the pump it may be warn out. And last if it is neither of those you need to get the motor rebuilt. The additives will do little as would a different oil, those would be very short term fixes. Good Luck.

Why are you looking for a TEMPORARY fix?

What weight of motor oil are you using in it now?

Yes a heavier weight of oil will help.

I find oil on the the diveway. The oil in the thunderbird keeps getting low and I do not no wear the leak is. How would find and fix it.I have a oil leak in a 94 thunderbird how would find and fix it?
Look around the oil filter for drips. The filter may not be seated properly.

    or

Places to check for an oil leak would be the oil pan gasket, valve cover gaskets, oil pump, and head gaskets. Since this appears to be an external leak, from having oil dripping on the driveway, any of the external gasketed joints on the engine would be suspect. If not apparent from that, possible crack or hole in the oilpan, loose drain plug, loose galley plug.

Worse case senario, a crack in the block, but I would say any of the above are more likely.I have a oil leak in a 94 thunderbird how would find and fix it?
The best way to find the leak is to steam clean the engine and put oil dye in the crank case, run the car, until oil leaks and check the engine with a black light. Look for florescent trail on engine. That's how we do it at the dealership.

Hi what you need is plastic metal . most good motor parts shops do it

make sure all area is clean and free of oil wash off with thinners rub with emery paper to give good bond

Mix and apply leave for 24 hours file or sand smooth .

Spray with little ally paint .

Hope that helpsHonda FireBlade 893 hair line crack above the sump an its leakin oil, any ideas to fix?
Certainly welding is the best way, but - DO NOT attempt it without removing the pan, and getting ALL the oil off things. To not remove the pan invites an explosion, not get all the oil off, a fire. Has been many an engine destroyed by some guy trying to repair it and not knowing what he was about.

Best repair on bike, is to wash clean with a solvent, carb cleaner, or such, V the crack out a bit, and fill with a good epoxy, JB Weld, PC-%26amp;, or such. Best NOT to use one of the quick set types. Then, a second application, cover an area an inch or so each side of the crack. Let cure overnight before riding.

I have successfully repaired maladies like you describe on sumps and gearboxes before with ';jb weld';....it's good sh!t.
you may be able to get it welded up it depends on the metal and the access to the split it might be cheaper than a new block.
get some jb weld, or even get someone to touch it up with an aluminum welder, no need to buy a new engine over that...
trade it in to some dummy of a dealer before it gets worse. meanwhile stick some gum on it so it does not show.

your best bet would be to take it to a repair shop.I have a riding lawn mower and for some reason oil is passing to the oil reservoir help wanna fix?
Not sure what your problem is by your description. I am going to guess that the oil is getting into the airfilter area. This happens when the oil level in the crankcase is too high. If it is above the full mark on the dipstick, drain some out. Clean or replace the air filter if it has oil on it.
Sometimes the air vent on the cap or the oil filter is clogged and the pressure builds.Try cleaning and replacing them.

It happened after a oil change at the dealer a couple of years ago. I have a 2000 Pontiac Bonneville. The car runs ok.The oil gauge needle on my dashboard is stuck all the way to the right. How does one fix this?
Could be 2 things, your oil pressure sending unit, or your insturment cluster.I think its just a coincedence that it happened after a oil change.I would try a sending unit first (as they are cheaper) before i would go after the cluster.Good luckThe oil gauge needle on my dashboard is stuck all the way to the right. I have a 99 Sportster XL1200, there is oil leaking from the engine vent tube, How can I fix this?

Talked to Harley service department they told me it was from changing to Synthetic oil; changed back to petro based same problem occures. I used synthetic oil for 2 years before this problem started. It is leaking from the hose behind the starter on top of engine case.I have a 99 Sportster XL1200, there is oil leaking from the engine vent tube, How can I fix this?
Okay the number one cause of this is overfilling with oil! Check your oil on level ground straight up(not on the sidestand, at full operating temperature. It does not have to be at the very top, I keep mine about halfway and have no trouble. What you were told about syth oil is crap, I have over 70,000 miles on my '96 883 and have run Amsoil 20-50 in it since 500 miles.

Very high humidity can also cause this blowback.

Your rocker boxes have what Harley calls umbrella valves, they are rubber one way valves intended to prevent the blowback you describe, over time they get hard and don't work 100%.

Finally have a compression leakdown test to see if you have ring or valve train trouble.

Do not vent to the atmosphere as suggested it makes a mess on the streets and causes your engine to produce more air pollution.I have a 99 Sportster XL1200, there is oil leaking from the engine vent tube, How can I fix this?
No problem. Nothing irks me more than when a bunch of people that haven't got a clue start giving advice. I have my Sporty and several Buells and do all of my own maintenance. I even did the warranty stuff myself.

the hose you speak of, is it open to air? and has the stock breather been replaced? this is a common problem with sportys, and the normal solution is to run the hose to the ground and let the small amount of oil drip. this problem occurs due to the head breathing of all later model sportys. there is no positive fix for it. even the stock bikes will blow a little oil into the stock breather
Take it back to the Harley shop and have them put new seals in it. Its not the oil its the vibration of the motor that causes Harleys this problem.
Every Harley leaks, just get used to it.

What happens when you dont put oil in your car and it makes a loud noise ,how much to fix it and how long ?

the previous owner apparently didnt put oil in the car and it is making a very loud rattling noise. What happens when you dont put oil in your car and it makes a loud noise ,how much to fix it and how long ?
A lot of money, æ‹¢ 2000 for a second hand engine engine fitted, more if it is a new car with no secondhaned part availability.

Checking the Dipstick every saturday or before long trips is hardly rocket science is it?What happens when you dont put oil in your car and it makes a loud noise ,how much to fix it and how long ?
    Replace the engine.
Well, nothing good results for sure. Most likely the rod bearing are shot from oil starvation . The crankshaft may be ok and then again it might be ruined. I'd look for a re-manufactured engine to put in it.
it will cost the expense of a new/rebuilt engine and the labor to install...sorry- very costly...
By not having oil in the engine, you can do extensive internal damage. Repairs can run in the thousands, and take weeks to repair.

Can you fix a car with too much motor oil?

And how much will it be?Can you fix a car with too much motor oil?
You did not say what year or make car. First determine why it is over full. If accidentally over filled with oil simply drain out the excess and go on.

If the oil level is over filled with gas, water etc you have a serious problem and need to tow it to a shop for evaluation.

Do NOT start of drive this car if gas is in the oil, you can destroy the engine or have an explosion and blow the oil pan, rocker covers and possible other damage to the engine, maybe even cause it to burn the vehicle while you are in it.Can you fix a car with too much motor oil?
take off the oil cap and drive til its at the correct level. Check every 15 -20 miles.
just drain the oil. and look at your manual for the correct amount. and always put oil in your filter before you put it back on.
You can fix the car by draining the excess oil. It isn't an expensive procedure, and you can do it yourself. (But as hithere2ya said, be sure your oil pan isn't over-filled with gas or water, and DON'T start your car if it is!)

To drain the oil: Under your car, there will be a large bolt on the side of your oil pan. Loosen it until fluid drips out; if the fluid is red, re-tighten the bolt, because you've found your transmission pan. If the fluid is black or a clear amber, you've found your oil and can proceed with the steps below:

    1) Place a bucket underneath your car and bleed out the amount of oil you think necessary

    2) Run your car at a fast idle for about 1 minute, then shut it off and let it sit for about 1 minute

    3) After wiping off the oil dipstick, re-check the oil level.

    4) Repeat steps 1 through 3 until the desired oil level is achieved.

If you don't feel comfortable doing this yourself, Jiffy Lube or any garage can do this for you for a very small amount of money. I couldn't imagine it taking any more than $15-30 (U.S).

I would get this problem fixed quickly either way. Too much oil in an engine can damage it; the crankshaft will whip the oil into a froth that won't circulate in the engine, causing the block to overheat.
you can blow seals and gaskets at the very least when overfilled.how much depends on the damage and the type of vehicle
    drop some oil out.
Too much motor oil? I over filled the oil on my car once. All I did was drain it and then fill it to the proper amount. I suppose it was due for an oil change.

If drilling (offshore or ANWR) is not a sure and immediate fix for high oil prices, why else should we drill?

Politicians and consumers alike seem to be fixated on the oil drilling debate (offshore and ANWR both) as if the only potential benefit is price reduction. There is considerable difference between the two sides about how soon, and how much impact drilling will have on oil prices. Like schoolchildren, we seem to be caught in an endless ';yes it will';, ';no it won't'; argument. Are there other reasons to support drilling that we can agree upon that make good sense? If drilling (offshore or ANWR) is not a sure and immediate fix for high oil prices, why else should we drill?
It would be a nice ';gift'; to the oil industry from republicans, to ensure the continued financial support that their party has enjoyed so long.

There are generally internal issues that cause ';oil consumption'; but with the year of the car %26amp; it not being blue smoke I'd chalk it up to old age.

The 1st %26amp; most obvious is: Is it leaking the oil? if so........deal with it accordingly.

The resolution in your case would be to do the following: Purchase a product by ';Lucas'; called ';Oil Stabilizer'; ($7.99-$12.99 qt.). Remove 1qt. of oil (if full) %26amp; add the Lucas. It is a very thick product so be patient......very patient when waiting for it to drain down the funnel. Hint: set bottle on the ground %26amp; set a hair dryer near it for 30 minutes to heat it up, you'll be happy you did that.

    See this website:

    ...as above...

To aid in getting the 'thick honey/Lucas stuff' to flow out of the container, I warm the full container up in a pot of hot water.

If the vehicle recommends 5w30 weight oil, I'd use thicker oil like 10w/30.
There is no quick fix, you probably have worn valve seals anf the heads will need to be removed to replace them, for now you can add what is called, Motor Honey.... it is thick and might help.....

HI I'm not sure if overfilling it well cause damage but it well slow down the rotating assembly as it splashes Thu the extra oil... and it well cause it to smoke as the extra oil is splashed up onto the pistons.. How over full is it??? you can just remove the oil filter dump it out and put it back on then start it then check the oil level again.. if its the full size filter it may hold 1 qt. of oil..

    good luck

TimDraining/changing oil to fix exhaust problem?
yes,,, just drain some out into a container .till you have the correct level.
If you have not blown a seal, it may. Overfilling increases the pressure on th internal seals and rings and can cause serious engine damage. Try it and see.

How do I fix a bald spot in my lawn due to spilled oil based stain?

I was staining my fence the other day when I spilled some on my neighbors lawn and few days later it killed the grass. I figured i could just patch it with some grass seed and hay but I am afraid it would not grow that the ground is now contaminated. Do I need to dig up that part of the lawn and lay down some fresh dirt and grass seed? How do I fix a bald spot in my lawn due to spilled oil based stain?
Unfortunately, yes you will have to dig up that part of the soil and replace it. I would did down about a foot and a couple of inches out into the unaffected lawn. Don't use any of that quick grow stuff you will see advertised in the stores. It does grow quickly, but it has a very high percentage of annual rye grass seed, which only lives one season. Once the area is dug out and refilled, smooth it out with a rake and spread your seed. Then take the back of the rake and incorporate into the soil. Anything left on the surface should be considered to be bird food. if you want to use a seed that will fill in quickly and come back year after year, perennial rye's should only take a week to 10 days to germinate. Your fescues will take 2 to 3 weeks and blue grasses can take up to 6 to 8 weeks. How do I fix a bald spot in my lawn due to spilled oil based stain?
make a sod patch.... use a pattern, like a 12 inch paver block or some such thing... cut around it as it sits over the dead area..... remove all that grass and the topsoil that clings to the roots........ now go to a part of your yard where the grass matches that which you just removed.... cut another time around the paver, only this time be really careful to go deep enufff to remove the patch with roots and some soil attached!!!.... take the patch and place it where the dead spot was.... water well and use a little pressure from your hands and body weight to insure good connection between the patch and the soil..... see that the area stays moist for a week and a little more..... go back and put some good soil in YOUR yard where you took out the patch, and sow some seed there or patch it with some border grass from your own yard that's extra......
Just put some seed there and watch. If it grows you are ok if not remove some of the topsoil and replace.

If I fix my car's oil leak, can I then put synthetic oil in the car?

I have a 1999 Honda Accord V6 Coupe with 150K. It has an oil leak that is not too big.

I plan on replacing all the seals on the motor to get rid of the leak. If I do this and succeed, can I put synthetic in the car worry-free?If I fix my car's oil leak, can I then put synthetic oil in the car?
this should not be a problem as long as you remove all of the old mineral oilIf I fix my car's oil leak, can I then put synthetic oil in the car?
what most people don't know is that the synthetic molecule is physically smaller than the natural oil molecule. seals these days are used for natural oil and unless is specifies that the seal is for synthetic oil, then it will seep on you, then lead to a leak. i'm not saying don't use synthetic, you can if you wish. just be prepared for the higher technology oil finding it's way past the seal
Of course - if you insist.

Personally, I wouldn't spend the extra money on the synthetic at this stage of the engine - I'd just go with a high quality oil and regular maintenance - after all, it's done pretty well up to the 150,000 mile mark, hasn't it?
    yes you can

make sue you have everything new

    and you will be fine

just make sure you have at least 80,000 miles on the engine

A 1984 toyota van and the front timming cover and seals are leaking oil, how can I fix or how much 2 have fix?
First and formost, is there oil on the ground where you park for longer then three hours? If not its a scam, if there is you would also see oil on the side of the engine with the hood open, you can however fix it yourself with some basic knowledge and a manual.
It's true, this may cost more than the van is worth. Oil leaking from the timing belt cover could cam seal or front main seal. Either way, it's basically a timing belt job. $600. Rear main seal means the transmission has to come off, another $400.
~$1000 probably. Tranny needs to come off for the rear main seal. You can fix it if you are willing to take the tranny out. Front seals are easier.

Rub in some lighter fluid to bust up the grease, then rub in some dishwashing liquid (no water yet) untill the mess is a uniform shade of grey. Machine wash in cold water and DO NOT put them in the dryer. They may need a second treatment and the dryer would set the remainder permanantly!

rud shampoo on it shampoo is designed to remove oil from hair
Lestoil....it works magic. A small drop on it, let it sit for about 5 minutes then wash. It's made by clorox. I have a hard time finding it where I'm at and usually special order it from family members up North...they buy it at Stop %26amp; Shop.
Rubbing alcohol is good at getting rid of ink if you let it soak, so maybe try it for the oil?
My Mum always told me to rub baby powder into the stain before I washed it. It works for cooking oil, it's worth a shot.
Try some Murphy's Oil soap. Usually it takes something oily to remove oily stains. Rub the oil soap into the spot WITHOUT any water. There's also a spray cleaner called Awesome you can get at a Dollar Store. It pretty much removes/cleans anything.

Both good answers. However, it's also possible that the water pump gasket has gone south. It might be best to check this first, as it'll be easier to replace than the head gasket.Kawasaki Mojave 250 has oil in radiator, what is causing this and how do I fix?
Most likely the head gasket is blown.

You may want to take it to a good mechanic, anyway, or you will waste the whole motor quite quickly. Radiators do not work well with oil, but the real problem is engines do not run well on coolant. If you have oil in the radiator you can assume coolant in the oil.
all three answers are on the money. have you ever overheated the bike? if so, you probably warped the head causing coolant to enter the oil. I'm not familiar w/your bike but a shop will probably charge you a pretty penny to repair it. I would get 2 or 3 opinions from shop mechanics and pick the one you feel good about and start saving for the repair job. oh, and don't forget to keep those coolant levels up.
bad head gasket, check your antifreeze, i bet it has oil in it, it will look like a milkshake

gotta tear down, and if you gotta ask this, i bet it ain't for you.... start saving, and quit riding or it will create more expensive problems
Also, if you have coolant in the oil the engine bearings will fail very soon if you keep running it.

You will need to remove all the gas from the mower because more than likely your gas and oil have now mixed. You need to take the (sponge) that covers the carburator out and run some water and soap through it and let it dry. Also your carburator itself may need to be cleaned because oil and gas and other junk may have clogged in there. Good luck.I tilted my lawn mower on the side to clean it, and a bunch of oil came through the air intake. How do I fix?
    good answer Report Abuse

Just sit it upright and let it burn out the oil. Take off the air cleaner and spray the carb with carb cleaner. Maybe take out the spark plug and spray it too after it cools.
Let the engine run a while and periodically clean the spark plug..... I've had many a person do the same thing....

Next time, keep the spark plug up in the air. This keeps gas or oil from seeping out.
change the spark plug and let it set over night. that way the oil will go back to the crankcase. and while you have the plug out crank it over a few times to clear the cylinder.
pull the plug install new one, don't do that again, check the oil level, mow to your hearts content :-)
How far down do you wish to take it. You are having an issue of it trying to burn the oil vs. the gas, plus your air intake may have more oil in it, not allowing the air to flow threw for proper combustion. You can do a few different things. First, whip out as much oil as possible, clean the air filter, or replace it. Remember to check and add oil to replace what you have lost when you tipped it. You can add a gas additive to help out with the sputtering or just let it burn threw there by itself. An octane booster such as sold in a auto supply house or motorcycle shop might just be the answer.
open up the filter, clean it up(prefferable replace with new filter)..then start the machine up...should work

Any quick fix for minor engine oil leak?

I'm currently selling my Jaguar and it has a slight oil leak. The problem is when I run the heat/AC and the car is not moving you can faintly smell burnt oil inside the car. My mechanic says it's very minor and since I'm selling the car it doesn't make sense to fix. I want to know if there is any quick fix such as adding something to the oil that would seal minor leaks.Any quick fix for minor engine oil leak?
Since you want to get rid of it so badly cover up the leak with tape and pray they don't turn on the HVAC by the time they find out its leaking the heat from the engine would have melted the glue holding the tape, therefore eliminating the evidence linking you to having knowledge of the oil leaking and trying to repair it.

Then again you could always tell the truth. If its so minor they probably wouldn't mind fixing it.Any quick fix for minor engine oil leak?
No, do not use any of those oil additives for sealing up leaks. They clog ports in the engine and cause premature wear to vital engine components. Its best to just have it fixed properly. You would be creating a world of problems for the person buying your vehicle.
my car did that too until i changed the valve pan gaskets. the oil was leaking down on the manifold and smoking. but if your selling it then try snugging up the bolts in the valve pan.

Dano, make sure you do not have to much oil in it now. Take plug out and clean it and replace it. Your lawn mower will smoke and die until all excess oil is burned out. You most likely did no harm. Just keep starting it will correct its self. Do not hold pull cord tight in hand while starting, some times when to much oil has been added it will make recoil cord kick back.

Good LuckToo much oil was put into a new mower, how can i fix this?
Drain the oil until it is at the full mark on the dipstick. The drain plug is on the underside of the engine. Make sure it is full but not overfull. Remove the air filter. Check it for oil. If it has oil on it, replace it. Wipe up any oil from the air box. Put in the new filter and it should be good to go. It may smoke a bit but it will clear up.

Your engine has seen better days. It is burning oil because the valve seals are worn out and oil is leaking down from the heads into the cylinders and your engine is burning the oil. You can have the heads pulled off and have the seals replaced, that will cost you in the area of $500-750 It depends how man miles it has and if the vehicle is worth it too you to fix, or just sell it for $100
Get rid of it now unless your willing to spend an awful lot of money soon( Im a mechanic)
the engine needs fixing,u have either the rings around the pistons r not tight enough to close oil leak upwards,or the valves rubber sealer is leaking oil downwards ,so it burns oil with fuel,u have to dismantle it and check either oil comes from up or is pushed from down.its a total engine repair u need
Your engine is wore out,it either needs to be replaced or rebuilt, that is the only way to fix it.
the piston rings are worn out or damaged and allowing oil from the crankcase to be burned in the cylinder
Sounds to me like your van needs new piston rings. I would say that there is not much you can do short of an engine overhaul
What I am curious about is if the spark plugs are oil fouled how was it that you were even able to drive the van? I had just one spark plug with alittle oil on it and my camaro ran like cra p since the oil prevents the plug from firing and my car was running on only 7 cylinders.

If it was just one or two spark plugs that are oil fouled you might get away with having the piston rings and or valve seals replaced for alittle while but in all reality nothing on your vehicle should ever wait to be fixed since it strains other parts and you find your self replacing everything.

A normal worn plug should have light tan or grey deposits on the firing tip.

A physically damages plug is evidence of severe detonation in that cylinder. and can damage the engine.

An oil fouled plug indicates an engine with worn piston rings and or bad valve seals allowing excessive oil to enter the chamber

A plug with an extreme gap is from leaving it in the engine to long and will cause misfiring , stumbling and lack of power.

A carbon fouled plug identified by soft sooty black deposits may indicate an improperly tuned vehicle, check the air cleaner , ignition components and engine control system.

A bridged or almost bridged plug identified by a build up between the electrodes caused by excessive carbon or oil build up on the plug.
New plugs and 50 weight racing oil, then trade it.
Piston rings are worn. You are getting oil ';blow by.'; The rings do not scrape all of the oil off the cylinder walls on the down stroke. Some oil gets burned during the combustion process. The fix is either rebuild the engine or junk the vehicle. It would cost $3,500 or more to replace the long block.

For that amount you can buy a van built in 1995 to 1999.
Sounds like a ring job. oil on plugs means burnt rings and or burnt exhaust valves.
sounds like your o rings have gone bad you need to replace them there a ***** to do so i suggest you pay some one to do it for you
First of all, you more than likely need rings, maybe valve seals in the heads. You might try running 10w40 oil with a bottle of Lucas added to the oil, follow the directions on bottle. This won't fix it but it should help it a bunch.

Help! Basement has an oil leak this am right where the oil comes up to the coil for the burner? Any fix hints?

Found an oil leak this morning from the copper tubing where the joint is...is this something that warrants a service call or something we could take care of?Help! Basement has an oil leak this am right where the oil comes up to the coil for the burner? Any fix hints?
it is sunday, call a handyman!Help! Basement has an oil leak this am right where the oil comes up to the coil for the burner? Any fix hints?
Turn of the valve at the fuel tank, gently tighten fitting where leak is,test. If it still leaks you could disconnect fitting and put some teflon tape on it or pipe stick(from any hardware store, even walmart).tape threads and tighten.

Valve for in house tank at bottom of tank where line comes out, outside tank above ground the same, buried tank should be where line comes into house, good luck.

  • What is the thing that's in front of the oil pan underneath the car? And how do I fix it?

My car is leaking oil real bad and I see it'd not the oil pan but the thing in front of it as you look at it from the front of the car. That's leaking oil real bad. What is the thing that's in front of the oil pan underneath the car? And how do I fix it?
front main seal. ';needs replacing';.What is the thing that's in front of the oil pan underneath the car? And how do I fix it?
    SOUNDS LIKE LOOSE OIL FILTER.

    NEEDS TIGHTEN UP.
its a harmonic balancer. what is leaking, is the front main seal. i don't know what in all is involved in replacing it, but i bet its a pain. good luck.
Hey buddy that thing that is leaking oil could be a number of things. It could be a front main seal which is rather expensive to fix or it could be oil lines. Best bet Have a mechanic look at it. or a cheaper way is use an engine degreaser wash all the oil and crap off ur engine then watch for where it leaks after u have cleaned the engine then I will be able to tell you more. Good Luck

PS If it is your oil filter make sure there are not two gaskets on the base plate and tighten your filter hand tight
    Could be your oil filter.
Is it the oil filter maybe? (a cylinder about 3 inches round)

If that's it, give it a twist clockwise. Then start your car ans see if it still leaks.
Not to be a smartass, but if you don't know what that ';thing'; is, you probably don't have the tools and/or knowlege to attempt fixing it. Find a trustworthy mechanic. BTW, that ';thing'; is probably the front crankshaft seal and fixing it is no easy task.
