My van burns oil how do I fix this?

I have a 1979 g20 chevyvan it smokes and when I change the spark plugs they have oil burned on them,wassup?My van burns oil how do I fix this?

new sparks dude. and a fresh filter. check for leaks.... (husband says cause it's so old it works harder). he has a 1977 truck; if you don't move it around abit it wiil leak. i would really check your gaskets... it might be kind of silly to ask... but do you a funnel to pour your oil? plus; once a again.. you do know that oil is checked on a cool engine and your transmition is checked at a warm temp., right?
Your engine has seen better days. It is burning oil because the valve seals are worn out and oil is leaking down from the heads into the cylinders and your engine is burning the oil. You can have the heads pulled off and have the seals replaced, that will cost you in the area of $500-750 It depends how man miles it has and if the vehicle is worth it too you to fix, or just sell it for $100
Get rid of it now unless your willing to spend an awful lot of money soon( Im a mechanic)
the engine needs fixing,u have either the rings around the pistons r not tight enough to close oil leak upwards,or the valves rubber sealer is leaking oil downwards ,so it burns oil with fuel,u have to dismantle it and check either oil comes from up or is pushed from down.its a total engine repair u need
Your engine is wore out,it either needs to be replaced or rebuilt,that is the only way to fix it.
the piston rings are worn out or damaged and allowing oil from the crankcase to be burned in the cylinder
Sounds to me like your van needs new piston rings. I would say that there is not much you can do short of an engine overhaul
What I am curious about is if the spark plugs are oil fouled how was it that you were even able to drive the van? I had just one spark plug with alittle oil on it and my camaro ran like cra p since the oil prevents the plug from firing and my car was running on only 7 cylinders.


If it was just one or two spark plugs that are oil fouled you might get away with having the piston rings and or valve seals replaced for alittle while but in all reality nothing on your vehicle should ever wait to be fixed since it strains other parts and you find your self replacing everything.


A normal worn plug should have light tan or grey deposits on the firing tip.


A physically damages plug is evidence of severe detonation in that cylinder. and can damage the engine.


An oil fouled plug indicates an engine with worn piston rings and or bad valve seals allowing excessive oil to enter the chamber


A plug with an extreme gap is from leaving it in the engine to long and will cause misfiring , stumbling and lack of power.


A carbon fouled plug identified by soft sooty black deposits may indicate an improperly tuned vehicle, check the air cleaner , ignition components and engine control system.


A bridged or almost bridged plug identified by a build up between the electrodes caused by excessive carbon or oil build up on the plug.
New plugs and 50 weight racing oil,then trade it.
Piston rings are worn. You are getting oil ';blow by.'; The rings do not scrape all of the oil off the cylinder walls on the down stroke. Some oil gets burned during the combustion process. The fix is either rebuild the engine or junk the vehicle. It would cost $3,500 or more to replace the long block.


For that amount you can buy a van built in 1995 to 1999.
Sounds like a ring job. oil on plugs means burnt rings and or burnt exhaust valves.
sounds like your o rings have gone bad you need to replace them there a ***** to do so i suggest you pay some one to do it for you
First of all, you more than likely need rings, maybe valve seals in the heads. You might try running 10w40 oil with a bottle of Lucas added to the oil, follow the directions on bottle. This won't fix it but it should help it a bunch.
