71 Plymouth Fury with 318 has low oil pressure. What is a decent temporary fix?

After 1/2 hour of driving or so, when the motor is fully warmed up, the oil light flickers off and on at idle. There is a tapping sound when this happens.

Putting the car in neutral gets rid of the problem, and the light does not come on during driving.

The motor does not smoke, but it is original so I'm sure the bearings are worn or something to that extent.

Would a heavier weight of a high mileage oil help this problem? Or is there an additive I can put in like Lucas?71 Plymouth Fury with 318 has low oil pressure. What is a decent temporary fix?
a thicker oil will help a little , but it sounds like it's rebuild time , the 318 was a real good engine , but they dont last forever sorry.71 Plymouth Fury with 318 has low oil pressure. What is a decent temporary fix?
probably not but could be faulty oil sensor , but more than likely needs oil pump ,however, it isn't that hard on those cars. while it's down you might as well replace lifters. or simply just change the oil and filter may also be the problem and cheapest and easiest.sounds like your oil is old and breaking down when warm.tapping is lifters.
