junk yard pan and bolt....new pan and bolt.. or tap the pre existing pan i would still drop the pan to do this any way metal shavings in the engine is bad ...also replace the oil pan gasket ..Car is leaking oil from oil drain plug how do i fix it?
depends on what the problem is. the drain plug is a softer material , and more prone to damage, but if the pan is damaged, you have one of three choices. one, you could find a last resort plug, kind of difficult to explain, a rubber plug with a metal screw going trough it and a t bar on the other end that will pull toward the head of the screw. this is a temporary fix only. or you could use the self tapping, over-sized drain plug that someone else mentioned. the best bet if the pan is damaged, is to replace the oil pan. all of this can be avoided if the plug itself is the source of the damage. heck, that plug is only what $5.00?
A tap %26amp; die set will help you to fix the threads on the pan,OR,you can go to a wrecking yard and get another pan. OR youcan try using some teflon tape around the threads on the bolt itself. Enough of it will stop the leak and not harm any other parts of the motor, plus the plug will still be easily removed...
tap and re-thread oil pan....or get a junkyard oil pan and install it. I'd go with junkyard oil pan... and if someone else (sevice station or whomever you use for oil changes) cross-threaded that plug don't go to them again!!!
go to auto zone and get a self tapping drain plug, they make their own threads, when you putting it in, just go back and forth so it can cut its own threads.
You will have to let the oil drain out then run a tap through the threads. Thats about all you can do.
I recommend you to buy a new oil pan , because in the future its gonna give you the same problems if you thread it.
you can buy a self tapping drain plug from your local parts store to fix the problem
