What should i use (hairspray?) to fix oil pastels?

i have recently begun working with oil pastels and blending them with turpenoid (a turpentine substitute). does anyone know what i should use to fix them in place so that they don't smudge?

is there a certain spray that i can buy at an art store? or is there a certain kind/brand of hairspray that works best? or maybe something else altogether...

thanks! What should i use (hairspray?) to fix oil pastels?
go to your local craft store: Joanns, Pat catans, michaels, etc and look for oil pastel fixitive, i have used this http://www.dickblick.com/zz217/13/ , along with many others before... just make sure that it is NOT workable fixtive, that will still allow smearing but reduce it while you are not working on it/to get too muddy of colors. What should i use (hairspray?) to fix oil pastels?
For soft pastel (chalk) they sell a fixitive product, I don't believe there is anything for oil pastels other than natural drying process.
Go to the websites for either Jerry's Artarama or Dick Blick. Type in ';fixatives'; in their search box. There are fixatives for pastels that will not change the color of pastels. Fixatives for pastels are very tricky because they WILL change the hue of your colors. But several art medium manufacturers make sprays that will work.
Hiyas, Never use hairspray. It can yellow over time. There is a special fixatif for oil pastel paintings. Its by Sennelier and is called Fixatif Pastels A L'Huile , it says right on it for oil pastels. Also i dont know what other bottles or cans it comes in but the one i have here is in a plastic spray bottle not a hairspray style can.
