im not sure what sort of engine you got or how it broke but with small cast iron and aluminum engines that are air cooled like lawn mowers and such thats often ok i know. cast iron welds good cold with a stick welder and stainless steel rod or better yet rod for cast iron to steel. i use ';all state'; brand 860 rod. its tricky to weld, do a little bit at a time and constantly tap the cooling weld with a small hammer fairly hard, this will relive weld stress. brazing can work as well but the whole thing must be somewhat evenly heated. with aluminum its best to use MIG or TIG but if your skilled and have about 120-200 amps DC you can do aluminum blocks with a stick welder. best to pre heat slightly the pieces with a propane torch unless you have a strong welder as its hard to get penetration on alunimum. it will burn through easy though too once you get into it so be patient. if you have a thin spot to weld like 1/8 inch or so its really tricky to not burn through, use an extra filler rod to help regulate the temp and build it up. cast iron is easier than AL in my opinion. good luck. also practice on a scrap piece before hand to get your tecnique down. How do i remove and fix a cracked oil sump. do i weild it?
if you have the skill, then yes.
