Oil leaks very slowly out of 86 Bronco. Will running thicker oil fix it?

I have a 86 bronco that leaks oil very slowly, but the oil falls onto the clutch making it jerk. I've ran some of that ';Stop oil leak'; oil additive and it did actually help, but hasn't completely stopped it. My uncle suggested running thicker oil in it to make it harder to leak out. What weight oil should I use? I live in Mid Missouri and it gets pretty cold in the winter so nothing that will be too thick to start on a cold day.Oil leaks very slowly out of 86 Bronco. No. Leaks must be found and fixed. Thicker oil may leak at a slower rate, but it's still going to leak.Oil leaks very slowly out of 86 Bronco. Will running thicker oil fix it?
Well, some really interesting answers ( I really like the ';fill the oil, check the gas'; thing from some silly child that wasn't even alive in those days) - ';Golly, those darn 390HP stock muscle cars could hardly hold any oil in them';!, LOL!. Now, back to reality, what you most likely have is a blown rear main seal, (as some people have identified). So, yes, you can run a 10W40 to try and slow your oil leak but, you are only delaying the inevitable (avoid stop- leak / miracle- in- a- can scams), the fact is,you have to drop the oil pan and replace that rear main seal, ASAP!
i'd have to say, if it's a slow leak, just keep up on the oil. running a 10-30 may help, or a high mileage oil, but really if it's slow, jsut check the oil regular. the 60's and 70's cars used to leak so bad that people would go to full service stations and say 'fill the oil, check the gas'. as long as you keep the oil filled up it won't hurt your car.
I wouldn't worry about the thickness of the oil. As another stated, oil gets hot and flows out quicker. Fixing oil leaks can be very expensive. I've found that it is less expensive to just add oil when needed versus spending hundreds of dollars working on a leak. You should evaluate how critical the leak is.
if it,s leaking on the clutch, then it must be the rear main seal. using heavier oil won,t stop it. there,s alot of pressure there. what you have to do is drop the oil pan and pull the last main bearing cap and put a new seal around the bearing.
No oil gets hot, oil gets thin when it is hot, and leaks the same
amzoil has a good leak stopper try that
