How to fix an oil leak under my car?

I have a 1999 Ford Taurus and the last place that changed the oil crossed the threads on the oil plug, and now it leaks about 3 drops a day. Any ideas on how to fix it? Can I replace the plug? Is there a sealer I can put on the threads? Help!How to fix an oil leak under my car?
you can go to any part store and get whats called an over size plug for it,this will re-thread its self and stop the leak,you,ll have to drain the oil first,but that will stop the leak and take care of the stripped threads,and it will be a permanent repair,it should last as long as the car does,i use them a lot around the shop,good luck with it.How to fix an oil leak under my car?
nope your not crazy they make those plugs to fit all kinds of cars now days,seems people strip those out a lot but they work really good. Report Abuse

Take it back to the last place that changed the oil, point out you think they cross threaded the plug and ask them to fix their error. They can do an over sized plug to solve the problem for you.





Of course it could be they just didn't tighten it enough, or the gasket is bad, but they can do something about that also.
first of all if they stripped the plug they should be fixing it, but if you get stuck fixing it yourself replacing the plug wont help, if the plug is cross threaded then so is the hole, the best hting to do is put some sealing tape around the plug and put it back in.
Get the oil change place to pay for a new oil pan, plus a rent car for you while car at dealership. They have insurance to pay for this kind of stuff.
u need to have the place that crossed threaded the oil plug. u can get a new plug with a cutter thread but might not work
Did you go back to the place that crossed the threads with evidence supporting your claim? Make them fix the mistake.





Three drops a day hardly sounds like crossed threads though. But things happen. It's possible the plug is not torqued to spec (finger tight) for some reason.
